Title

Introducing the soul reaper, a new and fearsome subclass for the warlock class in D&D 5e. Walk the path of death itself and wield the power of the souls of the living and the dead to strike fear into your enemies. With your spectral weapons, you'll slice through the toughest of foes and claim their souls for your own dark purposes. This subclass features an expanded spell list with a focus on death and undeath magic, as well as unique features such as the ability to consume souls for temporary bonuses and the power to create a powerful aura of death. Whether you're looking to add a new level of darkness to your campaign or want to explore the limits of power, the soul reaper is the perfect choice for players who are not afraid to walk the path of death.

__________________________________________________________

The soul reaper is a feared and powerful warlock who derives their magic not from a patron, but from the souls of the dead. Through dark and forbidden rituals, the soul reaper is able to harvest the souls of their enemies and use them to fuel their abilities. This power comes at a great cost, however, as the soul reaper is shunned by many for their unholy practices and their willingness to consort with the forces of death.

Despite their reputation, many soul reapers see themselves as necessary evils, using their powers to protect the living from the forces of darkness that threaten to overwhelm them. They may see themselves as grim guardians, watching over the world from the shadows and striking down any who would threaten it. Others may be more mercenary in their approach, using their powers to accumulate wealth and power for themselves. Regardless of their motivations, however, soul reapers are not to be trifled with, as their powers are as formidable as they are dangerous.

The soul reaper’s abilities center around their ability to harvest souls and use them to fuel their magic. They can summon spectral weapons, drain the life force of their enemies, and shroud themselves in an aura of death that can kill all who stand against them. While their powers may be dark and dangerous, soul reapers can also be incredibly useful allies to have, especially when facing undead or other creatures that are resistant to conventional weapons. Their ability to wield the forces of death itself gives them an edge in battles that other spellcasters simply cannot match.

__________________________________________________________

“Legends speak of a dreaded soul reaper named Azrael, who was said to have stalked the land with an air of menacing purpose. His spectral weapons, forged from the very essence of death, could slice through steel and bone alike, and his powers over the souls of the living and the dead were feared by all who crossed his path. It was said that Azrael could take the souls of his victims at will, adding their power to his own dark arsenal. And though many brave warriors attempted to vanquish him, Azrael remained a figure of terror, haunting the dreams of those who dared to challenge his power.”

– Xarri Xendarro, chronicler

__________________________________________________________

As a soul reaper, you walk a path that few dare to tread. Your powers over the souls of the living and the dead mark you as a fearsome and mysterious figure, feared by many. With each soul you harvest, you gain power and strength, growing ever more formidable as you seek to conquer death itself.

Expanded Spell List soul reaper

The soul reaper lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you:

Soul Reaper Expanded Spells
1st False Life, Inflict Wounds
2nd Blindness/Deafness, Gentle Repose
3rd Bestow Curse, Life Transference
4th Death Ward, Shadow of Moil
5th Contagion, Raise Dead

Soul Harvest

Starting at 1st level, you gain the ability to harvest the soul of a creature you’ve slain. As an action, you can attempt to harvest the soul of a creature that has died within the last minute. The creature must have had a soul to begin with, such as a humanoid, fey, or celestial. Make a melee spell attack against the creature’s AC. On a hit, you harvest the creature’s soul, which appears as a small, glowing sphere. You can only have a number of souls harvested equal to your warlock level. If you attempt to harvest a soul when you have reached your limit, or your melee spell attack misses the target’s AC, the attempt fails and the soul is lost.

You can consume a harvested soul as a bonus action to regain hit points equal to your Warlock level + your Charisma modifier. You can also use a harvested soul to power certain Soul Reaper abilities.

Spectral Weapons

Starting at 6th level, you gain the ability to summon spectral weapons. As an action, you can expend a harvested soul to summon a spectral weapon of your choice in a free hand. The spectral weapon lasts for 1 minute or until you dismiss it as a bonus action, and you are considered proficient with it. While the weapon is summoned, you can use it to make attacks using Charisma instead of Strength or Dexterity. The weapon has all the same traits as a normal version of the weapon, in addition to being able to strike creatures on the Ethereal Plane.

Additionally, when you hit a creature with one of your spectral weapons, you can choose to expend a harvested soul to deal an extra 1d4 necrotic damage. You can expend a number of harvested souls this way up to your proficiency bonus when making an attack with your spectral weapons.

Soul Siphon

Starting at 10th level, you gain the ability to siphon the life force from your enemies. When you deal damage to a creature with a spell, you can expend a harvested soul to heal yourself for an amount equal to half of the damage dealt.

Soul Shroud

Starting at 14th level, you gain the ability to shroud yourself in a powerful aura of death. As an action, you can expend a harvested soul to create a 20-foot radius sphere of negative energy centered on yourself. Creatures within the area must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 8d8 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Additionally, any creature that dies within the area has its soul automatically harvested by you, regardless of whether you dealt the killing blow. You can use this ability once per long rest.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
