Soul-Stitcher

Suggested Price $0.00

Soul-stitchers weave the forces of fate and soul energy to manipulate their foes and bolster their allies. Picking from one of three subclasses (Dollmaker, Tailor, and Smokeweaver), soul-stitchers cater to a wide range of play styles. Create dolls that bind the souls of your enemies to inflict great pain and suffering upon them.  Weave the threads of your own soul to give yourself abilities beyond that of the average person.  Bend and twist the essence of smoke or mist to create an army of unrelenting forms to wear down the defenses of your enemies. This homebrew D&D 5e class gives a new spin on some warlock mechanics while introducing a new variety of skills and features.

Edits:

3.0 Update:

  • Massive overhaul to class: due to suggestions and comments made (thanks people! keep them coming!) changes have been made to the class to give it more of its own "personality" and take it away from its warlock roots.
  • Comprehensive expansion to Sewing patterns: sewing patterns now function as a core mechanic of the class. There are close to 30 to choose from, each one with its own utility and viability in and outside of combat. Each pattern has a Backlash: a negative effect the caster must consider carefully before using the pattern.
  • Class no longer has access to spells of 6th level or higher, but instead gain more powerful sewing patterns and can use less powerful patterns more frequently.
  • Addition of ability "Meeting of the Minds"
  • Clarification on Soul-Doll: attack used to bind is an action.
  • Clarification on Vapor puppet: limit to one puppet active at a time.
  • Spelling and grammatical fixes

Reminder: this material is still being heavily playtested. The most recent changes are an experiment to give the class more personality and variety, making no two soul-stitchers alike. If I recieve feedback wishing the class to return to how it was previously, I will take that into consideration.

Question: What are the spells known? I’ve scoured the document and still can’t find anything on how many spells you know.

*How many spells known, not what spells known.

This class prepares spells from its spell list rather than knowing them. In the "Preparing and Casting Spells" section, it explains that you can prepare a number of spells from the Soul-Stitcher spell list equal to your Wisdom modifier + your Soul-Stitcher level, minimum of one spell. :)

Hello! I was wondering if you can allow for previous versions to be available. I quite liked how it was before 3.0 and I recently lost my copy.

Overall I like the theme of the class, I'd like to see some kind of variant that turns the smoke weaver into a conventional puppeteer.
Thematically the smoke thing feels strange but I still like it as an option. This is a really cool class, I'm looking forward to playing with it and glad to see you taking feedback into consideration!

Thanks! I'll mull it over and see what I can come up with for the smokeweaver. There have been a couple of ideas I've had along that same line of thought, so you might see something like that in a future update! Enjoy the class!

Nice! Hey I noticed soul stitchers don't get Hex but the get other similar spells like Bestow curse, is there a particular reason? Not the end of the world just wondering.

A few minor spelling errors:

Under Quick Stitch, additionally is misspelled as "addtionally"
"envelope" under Vapor Puppet abilities should be "Envelop,"
Under the second paragraph under Weavers of Fate, "Their" is misspelled as "thier"
"Material plane" should have plane capitalized. (The last word under "A Master of the Threads")
In the second paragraph of the same section, "even the smallest stum may create." Is it supposed to be strum?
Hitpoints at higher levels: "Constitiuion" is written, rather than Constitution.
Under cantrips, it says "You know 3 cantrips of your choice" but on the chart, at level 1 it says 2.
Improved Mending: "Material plane" should have a capital P.
(Sorry, I don't like being "that guy" that points out spelling errors, but they really get to me; especially when trying to present the class to my DM.)...See more

Thanks for your feedback! The grammar and spelling changes you suggested have been made.

As for the other questions you had. The ambiguity on the soul-doll melee spell attack has been specified that it requires an action to use.

The vapor puppet ability was in the process of being updated. A smokeweaver can no longer summon more than one puppet at a time.

I like the suggestion about adding Prestidigitation. It has been done!

Don't you think your class becomes overpowered at lvl 5?
So when I play soul-stitcher, I have Rending which is 1d8+5 damage on hit (assuming 16 Wisdom), and that's cool as it is.
But at level 5 I get: +1 to proficiency bonus, and rending improwes to 2d8, so it's total 2d8+6 on hit now.
And on top of that I can activate whip-stich at cost of 1 spell slot which are too few, but worth it anyway, because it's permanent (nothing is said about the duration), and suddenly I totally outpower everyone in dpr because on two successful blows I deliver 4d8+12 damage every round, can totally do it from far far away and it's at-will!
That is so powerful that I would do it pretty much every round of combat. And where's fun in that?..

I love the underline idea of the class, though.

Thanks for your feedback! Admittedly I haven't had too much time to work on the class recently.

First, as per the ability of Rending, you only add your modifier to the damage, not your prof. bonus. This is in line with 5e rules. So at level 5, your damage would be 2d8+3 with a 16 Wisdom.

Second, the abilities granted to you by Sewing Patterns lasts until your next short rest. However, the power of this ability has been pointed out in playtesting, and I am currently working on balancing that ability to better match damage output demonstrated by other classes. Right now 2*(2d8+Wis) is a bit more than standard classes, so I'm looking to bring that down to something more comparable to a warlock's eldritch blast.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
