Version 3.0 is now live! I've added rules for pro typing, cleaned up some of the existing content, simplified some rules, added new features, moved the firearms content into this book, and added several new sample gadgets.

Version 2.1 updates the Throw feature. It increases the ranges for all gadget sizes so that they are more realistic and in line with the ranges of 5e weapons.

Sorry for the late reply. I just saw your post today. See replies below.

"If I put 5 points into reliability, would that make the glitch roll unnecessary?"
Correct. But doing so increases your gadget's level 1 point for each reliability improvement. So, you would be sacrificing features and other improvements for that added stability. But that's all part of the cost/benefit fun!

"For a weapon, would you say the glitch roll and the attack roll can be combined like the misfire number for guns in Matt Mercers gunslinger archetype for fighters?"
I went through a couple tests on this and decided on keeping the rolls separate. I went this route because some of the results actually allow the gadget to work correctly but then glitch afterwards. For example, a gun might fire correctly and hit a target accurately but then jam as the cylinder resets for the next shot. Having the glitch roll as part of the attack roll makes this situation impossible and renders...See more

I have a couple of questions:

If I put 5 points into reliability, would that make the glitch roll unnecessary?

For a weapon, would you say the glitch roll and the attack roll can be combined like the misfire number for guns in Matt Mercers gunslinger archetype for fighters?

If I were building a large and complex gadget like a robot, would it make sense to for each limb or system to be a unique gadget? If I were to build it as one gadget, the DC would be impossibly high, but building it as separate systems would make more sense. And would there be a check to install/attach each system? If so, how would it work?
I think this formula would work:
(level of gadget being attached)*(rarity of gadget being attached)+(level of gadget receiving attachment)*(rarity of gadget receiving attachment)=DC to assemble

Version 2.0 includes a massive number of changes to the original rules, added flavor to invoke the gnomish inventing lifestyle, and two new backgrounds and a new set of rules for upgrades. There is now both a standard version and a printer-friendly version.

As always, constructive feedback that can improve this product is always welcome.

Enjoy.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
