Race: Serpentfolk (Naga/Lamia)

The serpentfolk are an ancient race of humanoids with the lower bodies of snakes. They have keen senses an can constrict their enemies in their coils.

People may know these as naga or lamia, but since both of those names are already used for something else in D&D, I went with serpentfolk.

If you get enjoyment out of this, please leave a review. If you think there is room for improvement please let me know in the discussion.

Also feel welcome to take a look at my other creations:

Warlock Patron: The Symbiont, a warlock who is infested with an extraplanar symbiont.

Sorcerous Origin: Elemental Vessel, a sorcerer subclass focussing on one of the four elements.

Race: Catfolk, a race of humanoid wild cats with 3 subraces.

120' heat vision is way too powerful as hiding from it is effectively impossible, 30' would be more appropriate.

The constrict ability is ridiculously strong. To begin with, the damage is simply too high for a racial ability. 2d6+strength is the same damage as a two-handed weapon before the constrict's damage scaling is even taken into effect. Next, it automatically grapples on a hit. To compare, a human fighter with the tavern brawler feat does 1d4+strength damage on a hit and MIGHT grapple their enemy. On top of the automatic grapple, you get automatic damage with your grapple. There is absolutely zero reason to use a weapon with this race and a strong argument could be made against using most spells. Also, 35 feet of movement seems excessive. Yuan-ti malisons, which have comparable anatomy, only have a speed of 30 feet. Stacking a skill to give expertise also seems unbalanced when you consider no standard races get this benefit. As is the race is overpowered. If you tuned the constrict down a significant amount and adjusted the racial bonuses slightly this could be a very cool species to introduce.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into it again.

As for the 35 ft. speed, I was looking at Yuan-Ti Abominations, who get 40 ft and fit the anatomy of what I have in mind, with the lower body of a snake. With Wood Elves having a 35 ft. movement I figured it would be a good compromise.

I've updated the file, bringing "Constrict" and "Athletic" more into line. I removed the expertise from "Athletic" and toned the damage of "Constrict" down, as well as removing the autohit component.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
