DM Screen Inserts

V1.1, updated 30/06/2017.

This is intended to provide replacement content for the inside surfaces of your official Wizards of the Coast DM Screen. The printed sheets can be trimmed to fit over the existing panels, making better use of the space and minimising distractions.

Instructions

  1. Select the PDF that matches your local paper size (Letter or A4) and chosen style (Modern or Traditional).
  2. Print off the PDF at 100% size, single-sided, borderless (so the print extends to the edge of the page).
  3. Cut along the dotted outline to achieve the correct size. The top edge will not need trimming.
  4. Attach the sheets to the inside of your official DM Screen. You can use photo corner mounts to make the sheets removable / interchangeable.

Super awesome sheets with great information. I am bummed they are landscape. In your preview they are portrait which was a little misleading. Great set of information though.

After having used these for literal years now (thanks, they are extremely useful) I just found an error, I think.

The traps and damage section differs from the damage severity by lvl table (DMG 121 or 116 XGE). It seems the damage for all items is halved in comparison to the DMG.

Example. The dmg lists a lvl 5-10 major trap as doing 4d10 damage, the dm screen insert table lists 2d10, the dmg lists 17-20 grave as 24d10, the insert as 12d10, etc.

Is this by design? Am I missing something? Or is this an error?

Definitely not by design! I’ll see what I can do about a quick update, but I’ll need to find the source files or remake it from scratch...

Thanks for the response. Good to know it's a mistake, and not some rule subtlety I'm missing.

Looking forward to an update if possible. I'll just old-school pencil-edit it in the meantime.

Out of curiosity, what are the fonts used in Modern?

The headings are Aharoni (comes with Windows 10 or Office), and the body is ScalySans, a freeware version of Scala Sans (which is used in the official 5E books).

Any chance you can make them in portrait for those of us using other DM screens?

That would be a pretty tall order, unfortunately. I’ll certainly try, but I’m afraid I can’t make any promises.

Would be nice if you could add a note in the description that they are landscape since we aren't all using the official WotC screen.

This is only really an issue because the full-size Preview still doesn't work and in the Quick Preview they look portrait instead of landscape. Nice screen, just can't use it.

Yeah, sorry about this. I've tried re-uploading my PDFs and it still isn't working. I'll check the PDF format requirements, but I'm sure it's right. In the mean time, you can view the preview here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5_FcW9yAAhGSW1wcFpuemdSRGc

Yeah, i don't know what the problem is, must be something with the website. One of my previews isn't working either. If you find a solution, contact me, thanks

Pretty good reference sheet, I like it more that most others I've seen. Very clean layout.

Critical damage is not RAW (you roll twice the dice, not roll the dice then double), and for some reason the ranged attacks within 5 feet rule is mixed in with it.

Has some homebrew rules on it I could do without, I'd rather have RAW stuff like underwater rules (since they are scattered all over the core books), etc.

Thanks for your comments. I'm fixing the critical damage and ranged attacks sections now.

Underwater rules would be a good idea to add. I'll try to fit it in too.

Regarding the homebrew rules, I understand it's not foe everyone's games. I'll probably remove them to keep this as widely applicable as possible.

Just to let you know I've updated the files today to remove the homebrew rules and add in a small section on attacking underwater.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
