Honeymage Wizard Tradition + Monstrous Bees

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $0.50

The Honeymage adds valuable support options to those of the traditional wizard, built around the theme of controlling bees. Ideal for characters of wild or rustic origins, it provides a party of adventurers with additional available healing and the caster with abilities to command and even potentially become a swarm of insects.

Warning: Chatting with a large number of bees has been known to creep out peasants.

Includes 3 Pages of Content:

  • New Wizard Tradition: The Honeymage Wizard
  • New Wizard Spells: Crawling Armor, Stinger of the Bee, Wave of Insects
  • New Feats: Bee Rider, Dance of the Swarm
  • New Monsters: Enhanced Bee, Giant Bee, Giant Queen Bee, Swarm of Bees
  • Both Color and Printer Friendly Versions

This wizard tradition was inspired by the name and concept art of an upcoming miniature from Stonehaven Miniatures, who generously provided permission to use their art in the document.

A truly enjoyable little document. I am writing up a supplement on a place called "The Land of the Insect Men" (actually a canonical area in FR according to FMQ1 City of Gold) and will be providing a link in it to this document, considering it will have playable abeil as one of its races.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the Abeil monsterous race from 3E, and how they could be incorporated into your design (which I do like a lot). I actually have an abeil queen that I had sort of MacGyver into 5E for my current campaign. If you are not familiar with them, this link can get you started. I am sure if you google them you will get more snippets.

Interesting. I've never actually dealt with abeils in game. I didn't even remember them at all until following your message I found a photo online ("Oh. Those guys?" was my reaction at that point). Then I went and dug up the book from a box in the garage to figure out what they had been all about.

Looking them over, other then their bee theme they don't really have capabilities in alignment with what I have currently. They have a lot of brute force abilities based on their wings and stingers rather then the mystic healing / swarm control I've been focusing on. Now I *could* certainly see an abeil being a honeymage; That actually could be an interesting way to distinguish members of the elite "vassal court" from regular vassals. And a honeymage would no doubt adore interacting with beefolk for obvious reasons. That could be where the discipline started actually: Some insane sage chatting about honey with a wandering vassal and the next thing you know...

Thank you for the swift response. I they are an obscure monster, so I am impressed you had anything on them at all! It is definitely one possibility as an origin for the arcane tradition. Currently, my "queen" NPC is a Beastmaster Ranger stat-wise. I may change that up a bit, to include your material. Thank you!

Update: I've added a new page with a spell, a feat, and full statblocks for three types of monstrous bee. Also there have been some format / text adjustments and the former Bee sidebar has been replaced with some notes regarding items and terms.

Update: I've added another page to include 2 more spells, one more feat, and another type of monstrous bee. I probably won't be adding much further to the content list. Any future edits will likely be feedback related.

Update (01/23/2016) v1.4

* General formatting updates (cover adjustment, page numbering, fixes to fonts to prevent some cut off descenders).
* Adjustments to some of the monster math.
* Added some pdf bookmarks.
* Added the version to the filename to make the update version clearer.

Adam S.,

Thank you for your comments in the review section. I already had some concerns with the later powers and have included some revisions to them in the new 1.1 version I just posted. Specifically:

* The Heart of the Hive protection ability now requires reaction to trigger and a short rest to recharge.
* Royal Jelly's transformation has been adjusted to be 10 minute concentration power requiring a spell slot expenditure and a long rest to recharge. It also has had some slight resource management aspects added as well as a very crazy option for people who totally succumb to the whispers of their buzzing companions.

I have some further possible updates planned including expanding on the flavor description, replacing the Bees sidebar with full statblocks, and adding some additional general use wizard spells that Honeymages may have pioneered.

I hope the player you mentioned has an opportunity to try out the tradition and would love to hear how it goes....See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
