5e Old School and Oriental Adventures

Do you long for the 70s and 80s style of Dungeons and Dragons.  Does nostalgia cover your bookshelf with the books of old.  Do you want to experience that feeling again, but with the streamlined and simpler rules of 5e!  Then this is your book.  Made for nostalgia only, it attempts to bring the crazy imbalance and yet perpetually outrageous fun of old school play into the 5e realm of classes and archetypes.  Based upon the idea of only 4 basic classes, it creates archetypes for the various subclasses for the Forgotten Realms and Kara Tur of the 80s and early 90s.

It has something for everyone, Archetypes that can be used for the Fighter, Wizard, Thief and Cleric for those nostalgic for the past.  It has Oriental archetypes for those who want to play in a Forgotten Realms and Kara Tur mixed party.  it has alteranate tables for those who want to focus more on bonuses for leveling rather than ability scores for proficiencies.  It contains alternate rules for using Dexterity for your defense and attack instead of armor, and using armor for damage reduction.

A toolbox for 5e to tailor your game how you want in the way you want to make it feel even more old school than it already does.  5e Old School and Oriental Adventures tries to help you in on the spot transitions for old school play, suggesting new ideas of modifications, and if nothing else, hopefully inspiring your own mind to create new realms for you and your table of gamers to go where no other gamer, and yet every other gamer, has ever gone before!

Too old school. Thorough, but basic.

Hi SRS. I love the publication. I'm having some trouble understanding the attack/damage section on ad&d dragons. The black dragon for example has attacks: 2;1-4/ damage:3-18. What does this mean and why is there no reference to dice like there is for the large dragons. Eg large black 2;1d6+2/2d10+4 . large/huge dragons don't even have a reference to attack sui what does the "2;" part of "2:1d6+2" refer to? I hope you can help me understand I'm love to run some lungs in my next adventure! :)

The "2;1-4/3-18"... the "2" is the number of attacks. The two ranges are for each attack. In this case, the Dragon has 2 attacks, the Claws do 1-4 and the XXX does 3-18. Simply put, the number before the ";" is the number of attacks. The dice ranges after are the actual damage ranges. To think of it like a PC, a fighter with a longsword and +2 for damage who had two attacks would be listed as, "2;1d10+2/1d10+2". In "classical long-form 1e notation", it would be like so: "Attacks: 2 with a longsword, 1d10+2 for each attack".

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
