Master the New Sublime Way

Inspired by the works of the Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords, Forged in Battle explores nine new martial disciplines from their inception to their current incarnations. Over 75 combat maneuvers utilize the Superiority die mechanic introduced from the Battle Master Fighter, along with new class options, including the new Bladesage class, backgrounds, and alternative rules for Honor and Dueling. Find your path to enlightenment and become a Sublime warrior!

Warriors of the Sword

Forged in Battle features seven new subclass options that utilize Superiority die and martial disciplines.

  • Path of the Ravager - A barbarian path that hones their rage and martial prowess to perform death-defying stunts.
  • Stalwart - A revised Battle Master Fighter archetype that presents additional utility and enhanced abilities. Become a standout.
  • Way of the Artist - A monk tradition that admires and appreciates the inner beauty of combat maneuvers as an art form.
  • Oath of the Crusade - A paladin oath that is passed down the generations as a tradition against adversity and pursuing one's cause.
  • Wildheart - A ranger archetype that blends nature's ferocity with martial traditions.
  • Shadow Blade - A rogue archetype that utilizes the element of surprise to perform crippling maneuvers.
  • The Ancestral Spirit - A mighty warrior spirit becomes the warlock's patron and uses them as a vessel until they meld to become a single entity.

The Bladesage class makes its debut! A bladesage is a warrior who studies the Nine Disciplines to ascertain a facet of universal truth and become enlightened. The bladesage features two subclass options: the Path of the Sublime and the Path of Nobile Truth. A bladesage that embarks on the path of the sublime understands that the Nine Disciplines each possess a unique perspective of truth, and to unlock their mysteries, one must seek to understand them all. A bladesage that follows the path of the noble truth follows the path of only one discipline, seeing the world through the lens of one school's philosophy.

Also, this supplement features two new backgrounds: the Disciple and the Exile. The Disciple is a truthseeker and travels the world in the pursuit of knowledge and ancient wisdom. The Exile has left the sanctuary of their peers and masters, destined to seek a place to belong.

Ways of the Sword

Forged in Battle features 75 combat maneuvers from nine martial disciplines with new origins, philosophies, and mechanics. Which discipline speaks to your warrior's soul?

  • Charnel Miasma - A discipline that embodies decay, poisons, and the inevitable ruin of all things.
  • Emerald Hammer - A discipline that harnesses the destructive fury of lightning.
  • Frost Veil - A discipline that channels ice to form illusions and glamours.
  • Lion's Roar - A discipline that expresses leadership and provides combat tactics.
  • Mirror's Edge - An enigmatic discipline that utilizes a foe's attack back against them.
  • Onyx Arrow - A discipline that focuses on ranged combat to perform the ideal kill shot.
  • Serpent Flash - A discipline that uses elemental fire and grants mobility on the battlefield.
  • Swan Song - A discipline that harnesses the opportunity from a foe's death.
  • Tempest Steel - A discipline that wields the wind and traverses into soaring heights.

Heart of the Sword

Forged in Battle presents alternative rules for an Honor ability score that defines their devotion to the tenants of their personal Code of Honor. Adversity and strife may cause a character to test the mettle of their Honor. A warrior may ante their Honor in a duel to reach an understanding, sometimes resulting in a change in status with their peers.

Hello

Just a quick question/check on a potential error I found in my pdf/hardcover copy;
-On Page 4 for the Path of the Ravager Barbarian, in the maneuvers they can learn along with "General" one's are from the Emerald Hammer, Lion's Roar, and Serpent Flash Disciplines.
-Later on in the Ways of the Sword section on page 22, the Subclasses and Disciplines show that the Path of the Ravager can only learn "General" maneuvers only.

I'm bit unsure which of these are correct/applies, any help clearing this up would be appreciated :).

Kind Regards
James

I'm curious, as this seems to be very heavily based on the fighter, what was the reasoning behind dropping the hit die to a d8?

CREATOR
If you're referring to the Bladesage, it was inspired by the original Swordsage from Book of Nine Swords, which was more of a monk inspired concept.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
