In Groceries for Beldok, your players will travel to a nearby village in order to purchase groceries and medicine at the request of Beldok, an elderly goblin woman who lives in a cozy cottage in the nearby forest. Along the way, they face a variety of social and interaciton-based challenges, from navigating the forest, facing down a brown bear, and contending with suspicious town militia members, greedy merchants, and one very nervous apprentace apothecary. Finally, with groceries in tow, the party comes across a band of bounty hunters en route to attack Beldok! Should they return triumphant to Beldok's cottage, plenty of gold, a magical necklace, a big home cooked meal, and a cozy place to rest for the night await them!

Groceries for Beldok is an adventure for 2-4 level 1 characters with an estimated run time of 2-4 hours. Groceries for Beldok focuses on social and interaction encounters, and would be perfect for younger players, players who dislike combat or as a brief change of pace between quests. The adventure is setting neutral, written with an eye towards inclusion in any setting--all you need is a forest and a village, and you can plop this module anywhere you'd like with minimal tweaking.

NOTE: This adventure does not yet include a printer-friendly or screen-reader compatible versions. These will be added soon!

[Disclaimer: I'm one of the playtesters.] Super enjoyable! The quest npc is cute. The main locations have enough hooks to expand as desired, but are fleshed out enough to not need it. And the adventure as a whole could easily segue [...]

This adventure was a lot of fun! Had a denser-than-you'd-think amount of encounters, but each of them could be played a bit more or less thoroughly as needed. Our run completed the bear encounter in under a minute, for example, but spent a long ti [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
