This short dungeon is for four to five third-level characters and is designed as an entrance examination for the Adventurers Guild. It can be run as a single-session stand-alone adventure or dropped into an existing dungeon as a classic escape room-style puzzle. The Adventurers Guild Admissions Office has a mix of combat threats, traps, role-playing, and puzzles. Experienced players are promised to delight in both wit and skill, while a novice may emerge bruised, but thoroughly entertained. Either way, this adventure should provide entertainment enough for a single three to four hour session.

As a bonus, successful players will have access to The Adventurers Guild itself, a new exclusive organization for your group. Admitted adventurers enjoy an exclusive tavern, job postings, a market place, and bragging rights (of course).

The adventurers will make their way through treacherous halls with multiple traps and hidden passages. However, nothing is as it appears. The brave that continue will enter a puzzle room, which holds the secret to their escape. There is much to discover, including an attention-starved goblin, a flame machine, a deceptive statue, secrets galore, and even an angry ogre. The adventurers must find and align the critical components in order to calibrate and fire the flame machine. The scorching blast will uncover a hidden key that holds the promise of freedom.

Dead Box Games is a partnership between founder and game designer Frank Tedeschi and artist Derrick Nau. After a raucous night at their favorite local brewery, they realized they had a mutual love of gaming and adventure and decided to collaborate.

Frank, a PhD biochemist and long-time Dungeon Master started Dead Box Games with the release of the beer-forward board game Alestone in 2015. Derrick, an artist working in animation, joined in 2019 to collaborate on the card game Goblin Teeth, published by Jellybean Games. They demonstrated their collective skill on these board game releases, but their shared passion came to light while playing in a D&D campaign together.

Frank and Derrick seek to build cross-table camaraderie through both whimsy and disaster. They set out to spark fun and creativity in games for all players while supporting communal storytelling.

Hi Nathan. No current plans for making it a solo adventure currently. Thanks for the suggestion!

I am really pleased and impressed by the production value of this adventure! The focus on problem solving and exploration over hack and slash is a pleasure and will certainly challenge my players with less of the head scratching prep work for me.

This fun one-shot adventure is cleverly written and beautifully illustrated! DMs can prep for it quickly, as there's just the right amount of details for a single-session game, but it still presents clear & entertaining NPCs (plus a brief hook for future adventures.) The artwork is evocative & the maps are top-notch. It's an absolute steal for the price!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
