Bubby the Werehippo

"Happy Jack Loves You!"

The painted man rode into town, tossing candy and small trinkets to the cheering children. The children, their mouths stuffed with gumdrops, laughed at his jet-black horse adorned with a white saddle festooned with jingle bells.

He introduced himself to the town elders as Happy Jack and asked their permission to set up his attraction in the town square. The elders, seeing the happiness in the children, agreed.

Happy Jack brought with him food vendors and a thrill ride—a large painted attraction which manifested from a leather green and red checkerboard satchel after he placed it on the ground.

All was fun for two days...

Old hag Reaver and her zombie monkey

I'm new to buying pdf's like this, which version is the latest (which one should I use)? My purchase included several versions and I don't understand the difference between them. is the text the same throughout and just additional artwork?

I'd like to know which one is the most complete to print.

Hallo to the authors!
Would you mind having this adventure translated into Ukrainian (back here on DMS with royalties shared of course)

Hi, I was wondering if it would be alright to stream running this one-shot on Twitch? I would be running this as part of an event for charity to benefit the Trevor Project.

I would give credit to the author and link to this page in the video description, with regular timed messages in the chat livestream itself doing the same.

I ran this today and got to the deep Barovia map, with two level 8 characters, in about 4 hours. I thought it would take longer honestly, our group likes to get sidetracked, but the limted number probably helped. We missed section 6, but got to the portal from Jack's room.
Couple of issues I encountered that were overcome.
The Reaver at the start, the first question my party had was "why have you kidnapped kids". It threw me and I used misdirection "The are not kidnapped, they are happy and inside". They moved on, but it is hard to know how quick the Reaver would act.
Area 4H, a character was trapped from the rolling, but it seems like there should be a a connection from H->I, so they aren't trapped.
A Tortle, cannon balled into the ball pit, I gave him damage and he was a little peeved on that, I stand by m,y decision lol.
Area 3B doesn't have a door, should it?
Area 4M, with two members, it was close to them being stuck, I did have 2 PCs though....See more

I'm looking for a ready-made adventure to introduce space clowns into my upcoming spelljammer campaign. Would you say this adventure adapts or converts easily to the spelljammer setting, and would space clowns fit in well with this funhouse?

Hi, Jefferson!

It's funny that you mention this. I've had thoughts about converting this adventure to Spelljammer. As it is, the map is square. However, the adventure is accessed by a portal. There could be a portal / door on a Spelljammer that leads to the pocket dimension the adventure occurs in. You'd probably also want to make some thematic and description adjustments.

Not yet, but we just received word the Roll20 and the DMs Guild have reached a partnership agreement. Hopefully, this adventure will be on Roll20 eventually.

I see your maps that say they are for Roll20, but for the life of me I can't get them to line up to the grid. Do you know the width x height dimensions that would give the right layout of cells? I tried 4620x4620 pixels since that is what the image property says, but it doesn't line up right.

I'm sorry, I don't. I'm new to Roll20 myself and I haven't converted any of my adventures yet. I know others have ran the adventure using Roll20, though.

Couple questions: 1) The mirrored floor (3B) appears to be surrounded by walls. How are players supposed to know its there? 2) I'm scaling up everything to CR 7 or 10 (still figuring it out). Are the adult aspects meant to scale or should they be relatively easy to beat? This will be my first time DM'ing to give our forever DM a break and it looks like a lot of fun!

Hello, Jason! This room is tied to Area 7K Petting Zoo. It's on the map in case the adventurers happen to break down the walls. I wouldn't scale the adult aspects for the adventure.

Considering purchasing for my first campaign to DM and just want to check (what with the main picture being a clown), on a VTT, would this campaign be okay for players/viewers with Coulrophobia/fear of clowns?

Thanks

The adventure is based in a creepy fun house and does feature the clown on the cover. You might want to ask the player if they would be comfortable playing the adventure.

I mean more for creatures/opponents appearing on the VTT as token. The cover I can work around image wise

Any tips on how to insert this adventure in Waterdeep? I'm planning one running WDH by the end of the year and would love to set this one shot in the city to familiarize them with.

My campaign is set in Waterdeep, and I am running this on the Waterdeep holiday Liar's Night. Could maybe use it in the Fall setting replacing the circus ran by Jarlaxle.

Love the module so far! One issue, I can't find the stat block for the chainsaw construct. It looks like it should be in the back, but I didn't see it. Any guidance would be amazing :)

The Chainsaw Construct is more of a trap than an actual creature. Think of it as a metal dummy that springs from the alcove while waving a chainsaw connected to a spring. Or, you could use an animated armor, adding the chainsaw to its attack actions.

I like the trap anology. Chainsaws are not "fantasy" so I'll probably just look for another "trap". How about an iron maiden that comes out and engulfs a character?

That would work, or change the attack to a cleaver. Happy Jack is a collector of rare things. There's no telling how he acquired a chainsaw. Consider it alien technology in a fantasy world.

Spoiler (?): I'm NOT a fan of the chainsaw. I know what you're going for but it's out of place in a fantasy campaign. Any creepy/campy yet fantasy alternatives? Worst case, I thought I'd go with a cleaver.

I think level 4 would work. Just watch how the game play goes. You might need to adjust the AC and hit points of the creatures they encounter down. You might also make the skill checks a little easier by maybe decreasing them by 1 or 2. If you find them struggling, it's okay to make adjustments.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
