NOW A GOLD SELLER! Thank you all so much for he downloads and I hope my hard work is giving you all some good laughs and gaming moments.

The Underling's Awakening is a small campaign (25 pages) meant for more than one sitting. It features a vivid story based campaign featuring 2 dungeons and a chase accross an open moorland. Please feel free to download the maps and dungeons seperately (required if using the ink friendly version as maps dont show up on these formats. Apologies in advance - the maps are not in Black and White)

It is intended for characters level 4+ (level up from 4 after Minion Wraith fight to ensure easier survival) up to 10.

It is a continuation on from my previous title - Rise of the Necromancer (https://www.dmsguild.com/product/267287/Rise-of-the-Necromancer?term=rise+of+the+ne) and leads on to the final installment - Empire of the Underling (https://www.dmsguild.com/product/290402/Empire-of-the-Underling?term=empire+underl) in which our players must infiltrate and exterminate the forces of evil in a brand new city!

V2 - Fixed some spelling and grammar issues, I've also added details on what to do after the final fight if a critial hit is scored with the magic dagger. Also ammended the final boss stats to make it more dramatic and in keeping with the theme of the story.

Please feel free to leave a comment or review and again any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Downlaod size = 42.1mb (main file)

Hello, I bought your second and third adventure and I really like it, I just have one issue, is there any way you could provide a players version of the maps? (you know, without the digits symbolizing where something happens) ?
That would be awesome. Thanks in advance

Hello Craig, thank you very much, really appreciate it. Yes I still have some time left until my next session so no worries there :D
But could you maybe do the same for the Temple of Torog and Cave of Eternity map? (If it isn't too much work for you) I tried to remove the numbers with some image editor but it just looks really bad :(

Best regards,
Manuel

Still running Rise of the Necromancer, but have started my prep for Underlings Awakening and was just wondering if anyone has any tips how to convert them into roll20, as due to covid I am running them online?

Hi Kye, sorry for the late reply - I'm not very familiar with Roll20 but all the images should be easy enough to send/stream to people you are playing with on discord or zoom when you screenshare etc. Just be sure to turn it off again when you go to the module itself so you don't give any solutions away. I know it is difficult in these times but just have to make the most of what we have at the moment. Personally I've just been screensharing my second monitor only when playing D&D with my group which ONLY ever has the current map of where they are (or some hideous monster they are fighting!).

Let us know how it goes and happy gaming!

So I run my stuff on Roll20 right now. My husband makes tokens for me with some program that I can't remember what it's called, and he uses a program to make maps (also can't remember the name, but I'll ask and reply again). We did use a different map that was similar for the last battle of RoN, but for the most part we made everything ourselves. I also had my players make their characters ON Roll20

That's great you managed to get everything working on Roll20 - like i said i have my own way of doing things online using discord etc so that's what works for me and my group so can't comment on how good/bad Roll20 is but as long as it works and everyone is happy and enjoying themselves that's all that matters :)

Great story! This was my first time DMing and my friends and I just finished Rise of the Necromancer. Great cliff hanger! We're all eager to go onto the next part of the story.

I do have one question (although it might just be my inexperience), I know you designed Rise of the Necromancer for level 1 players and then The Underling Awakens is for level 4+ players. I'm playing with 4 people, so the recommended amount. By the final battle of Rise of the Neromancer, they still hadn't leveled up, so I recalculated the XP of the enemies in that final battle for them to reach level 4. Anyway, my question is at what points in this game (The Underling Awakens) would you expect a party of four to level up? Or what levels would you expect them to be at throughout the story?

Hi Patrick, first off thank you so much for trying my series as your first DM campaign - life behind the screen is quite the bit different!

Secondly as far as levelling up, after rise of the necromancer (which they should definitely be up to level 2 by the end) I'd take the players on a few other quests unrelated to the main story to allow them to develop and grow/level up until you feel like they are ready to tackle the next stage in the story. How quickly you do this is completely up to you. I personally use story based levelling instead of counting xp but either should work well.

As for levelling up in TUA - assuming players start at level 4: once at the skylake level up to 5. Then after the cave of eternity level 6 and finally after the final boss level 7 (means only a short quest or two to get to level 8 and into The Underlings Empire)

Let us all know how you get on with it!

No response needed. I'm just leveling up at about every part (broken into 4 parts) in the campaign.

A fun story line and good follow on from the first installment albeit it wasn't without a few minor issues that were easily worked out and resolved. Craig, i have to tell you, personally i loved the story in this campaign, the build up, the niggling, the weakening and the final encounters were brilliant.
Thank you for your work and effort.

Hi Jamie, so glad to hear you enjoyed the story. I love building suspense and false security in my campaigns to keep the players guessing. Just curious if youd let me know what were the minor issues so I can help/avoid the same ones in future :D ... oh and please let us know how you get on with the next part of the story when it come to it!

So, I'm currently running this campaign now. Ive had to make a few modifications to the bosses bc they get kind of blow over. In the end, the Underling seemed kind of mediocre at best when its been such a big build up. So, I added legendary resistances, and a few legendary actions so it can actually stand a chance among my group That at level 4 is dishing anywhere between 100-150 damage a round. For a boss... he needed to be...well, a boss. Also, towards the end of the story there isn't a split to the story to so you have to make your own conclusion and just adlib everything. Its either the Underling is stabbed with the Siphon. return to the lake for cleansing (without any other instructions on how to do so or where the story goes) or the Underling succeeds and everyone wakes up at the lake and its now a desolate land of waste and the maiden is held against her will; which the story finishes out this ending until the next installment. I haven't a clue if my PC will roll a nat20 to strike down the underling or...See more

Hi Matt, thanks for the input appreciate the help. I always say its DM discretion on how difficult you want a campaign to be. Some teams with well functioning members will always do better than fresh recruits with randomly created characters. Its a tight rope i walk in creating these guides and i would always err on the side of "too easy" but leaving room for the DM to up the stats or number of monsters per encounter. I hate for my own players to be completely obliterated halfway through a campaign and so for this reason maybe i am too lenient. As for the story arc - trying to split the story for two ways takes up a lot of time and "what ifs" that i can not account for every situation. Personally i try to "steer" my own players to keep in line with the story so things get kept nicely on track. The next instalment has a lot more story crossing and what ifs in it (my skills at building these guides is slowly improving lol). I did notice myself however i failed to add in !SPOILER WARNING!...See more

Just finished the second part completely and while the party had fun they did have some complaints about getting auto-attacked without any kind of checks or saves and just took auto damage. I do get where theyre coming from as everything usually has some kind of check before tripping a trap or attacks.

Hi matt, glad you and your group enjoyed it. Looking through the underlings awakening i see come bits myself that could do with a little tweak here and there as well as what you have mentioned (my module writing skills are improving albeit slowly lol). The good news is part 3 to the revival series is done! Proof reading has started and i am making a separate file for the monster stats in the book as the module itself is 30 pages long! Should have it all done by the end of this coming week so stay tuned for the next bit - going to be epic!

Hi Craig, any suggestions for how to bridge the story gap Matt pointed out here? My party just succeeded on the nat20 with Siphon, and I'm at a loss for how to continue with the story. As it's written it seems as though the story just ends here with the PCs successfully destroying the Underling's soul. I really want to continue with the third part of this series, but I don't see how to come up with a good story reason for the Underling to live to fight another day.

Just picked this and the first one up with the idea of running these as a oneshot campaign when our normal campaign takes a lull/people can't make it. Reading through both i'm looking forward to running these (my first attempts at being a DM) and looking forward to seeing the next chapter.

Well we're half way through this now and so far everyone has enjoyed where we're up to (took us the session to get to the Skylake). the battles between the inn and the lake have been interesting with some of the skills of the mobs and feedback i've had from the players is good. hopefully finishing off this week and awaiting the next instalment

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
