Phandalin 001 Return to Phandalin

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $4.00

Return to Phandalin is a collection of short modules centered around an updated Town of Phandalin.  The first part provides an overview of the town several months after the events of the starter boxed adventure; Lost Mines of Phandelver.  The town has grown with new business and NPCs which can be used for further adventures.

The second section of the adventure provides 3 short modules for characters of level 5-10.  The first involves a mysterious tower where scream can be heard coming from within.  Next explores the standing stones that comprise The Place of the Unicorn where an ancient portal is thought to exist.  The last module involves saving some merchants from a band of ogres that have taken over an old mine.

Hi Keith - as a new DM, can you provide a list of your supplements that I could add to this module?

Use this adventure as the base and add a new campaign using the 021-028/29 modules to make a decent campaign. These are the ones with the light blue/red box on the cover. This adventure and the next with just a red box were meant to use after you ran Lost Mine of Phandelver box set, but you still use the updated town in the follow-on adventures and you can add these quests later in that campaign. There are also a few Southcrypt modules that take place after LMoP.

If you have the Icespire Peak box set, you can run the Essential Phandalin line with the blue box with gradient lines. Hope this helps.

Hi Keith! I love this adventure! I recently noticed you updated this PDF. So it's now at 29 pages? What else changed or got added?

I was asked by the DMsGuild people to remove certain logos and maps that did not have permission for. I made new maps for the region that could be printed for PCs to have and track things and added a series number to help keep campaigns in order. No substantial content changes though.

I'm glad to see material continuing from the starter set campaign. It'd help if your description listed the adventures and their levels.

Thank you. I'll make an effort to add that in future modules.

What exactly is the order in which the different modules you created for Phandelver should be run? I didn't understand

Originally my home group played the boxed set (LMoP) and wanted to continue playing their same PCs. This led to a couple of the Southcrypt adventures and the Leilon modules I also wrote. The group came back to Phandalin a few levels later and several months later in game time. This is when I wrote Return to Phandalin and Wave Echo Sea.

The next campaign started in Phandalin using the updated town from Return to Phandalin, but started with the module; The Missing Miners. This is followed by The Ruined Abbey, Return of the Redbrands, Castle Whitecloud, and The Naga's Tomb. These 5 modules takes the PCs from levels 1-5 and uses snakefolk as the main bad guys. The next 3 modules: Wave Echo Ghosts, Search for Aurilsbane, and Auril's Vault continue the same campaign but use the cult of Auril as the bad guys.

Right now, the PCs want to travel to Waterdeep to tie up some loose ends and I am writing some side treks to Red Larch, Goldenfields, and in Waterdeep. I may post it, but not...See more

The first part of the module is for all levels and just tells about the updated town, while the 3 adventures in the rest of the adventure are for levels 6-9. I think the Screaming Tower is level 7, while The Place of the Unicorn and The Ogre's Camp is for level 8. These were originally ran in my home game when the PCs from LMoP went off to some other adventures and came back to Phandalin to take over the castle there.

I ran this. They were solid adventures, and the Phandalin NPC information is valuable. I switched around the order. Here are the session logs from when I ran it: https://rpg.kamander.com/search/label/Return%20to%20Phandalin

I used a few hooks to lead the group here:
1) Linene Graywind asked them to investigate rumors of an ogre encampment that had been ambushing caravans between Phandalin Leilon,
2) Halia Thornton asked them to make the mine where the ogres were rumored to be camped available to her,
3) and most importantly, they were searching for Sister Garaele, who has been missing ever since they returned from Cragmaw Castle. Daran Edermath told them that she had told him she was considering trying to find The Place of the Unicorn.

Your writing makes the adventures more exciting than when I ran them. Thank you for your kind words. It is nice to see how others run the modules compared to how I ran them being the author and knowing the nuances that did not get written and only were what was intended.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
