PSC3 The Demiplane of Ectoplasm

The Mind's Eye is a series of articles from the later period of the third edition of Dungeons and Dragons when Wizards of the Coast was releasing expansions online relatively frequently. They were focused on psionics, psionic creatures and most importantly gem dragons and the deity Sardior. The Complete Psionic of the same era also heavily featured creatures formed from ectoplasm, and the entire concept was introduced (for the third edition) in the Psionics Handbook of 2001 (and its expanded version).

With the recent release of Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, it only made sense to revisit some of these articles and books to see what can be updated and brought into modern lore seamlessly. Though never explicitly stated, it appeared that there was a common theme throughout the Mind's Eye articles with the Demiplane of Ectoplasm found at the center. This book, along with the accompanying adventure MZA7 Dragonglass, is an attempt to explore that metaplot further.

In these pages, you will find information on the history, conditions, inhabitants and features of the Demiplane of Ectoplasm so that it can easily be used in a home campaign or be the actual center of a campaign in itself. You will also find magic that expands upon psionic abilities, particularly in the use of the substance of the plane's namesake.

Some of the included features found in this book:

  • A description of the psychoreactive substance known as ectoplasm in its many forms.
  • A history of the Demiplane of Ectoplasm matched up to the Forgotten Realms calendar for reference.
  • An overview of the layout and entrances to the demiplane.
  • Specific locations in the demiplane such as the Thought Tree, Mount Caliboth, and the githyanki settlement of Ginden Bali,
  • A full color map of the demiplane.
  • The flora and fauna of the plane, such as sheengrass and the brain mole.
  • Magic of the demiplane including an update to the Astral Construct psionic ability - now a new spell!
  • Three new playable races including the psionicallt endowed Aleithian Dwarves, Quanak Lizardfolk and Ocelotl tabaxi.
  • New and updated monsters, including the ardent spider, ironglass rose, dremfane and more!

Please Visit Maztica Alive! for updates, news and everything you need to know about the True World Campaign!

This product is produced by “Maztica Alive!” - a collection of authors, artists, cartographers and others who have come together to expand and recreate the western continent of the Forgotten Realms world of Toril, keeping it in line with canon from all editions.  This continent consists of Anchôromé in the north, Lopango in the south and the well known region of Maztica in between. Many of its inhabitants have come to calling their home the True World.

The Maztica Alive! crew now has over fifty supplements and articles broken down by region or author. The products all complement and remain consistent with one another and in some cases even reach into the planes or the stars.  Each Maztica Alive! product is linked below.

The third letter of each tag determines the type of product available from "C"ampaign guides to "S"upplements, "M"ini supplements and articles or even "A"dventures.

Additional authors will have tagging systems as determined by the author.  If you are interested in becoming part of the Maztica Alive! team, please email Jon Hild at seethe75 on gmail.!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
