In a distant dimension of existence, a collective of Modrons run experimental tests to find the answer to one question: What draws adventurers to places known as "Dungeons"?

Hijacking the travel of adventuring parties, these Modrons subject them to a series of tests in their artificially created dungeon. Deadly combat, logic puzzles, "moral" challenges, and a plot about a kidnapped "Maiden" Modron by an "Evil Wizard Construct" can be found within. But not all is as it seems...

Find within a lawfully assembled Modron based dungeon that unpacks and twists the very nature of dungeon crawling!

A one-shot 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons adventure optimised for 3rd - 5th level characters with monsters, maps, and more. Approximately 4 - 6 hours of play.

I'm planning on running this one shot for a group of friends and wanted to advise what levels they can play at. If I have a group of seven (large, I know), would you suggest they all be level 3 PCs? Or can I do a mix of levels?

Interesting question! My best guess is that a party that size would work well as level 2s. Everyone will have simpler characters and be able to focus more on roleplaying and simple actions during combat. If you have issues with certain encounters being more or less difficult than you want during play, I suggest just secretly tweaking the enemies health. Have fun!!

Reading through this adventure now and I'm loving it so far. I'm getting some serious Portal vibes with the Director as Glados and the rooms as test chambers.

Oh my, I have to grab this one. Was it inspired by the Modron Maze in Planescape: Torment? It'd almost have to be, wouldn't it?

Definitely inspired by! There isn't much 5e content related to Modrons, so I thought I'd resurrect a classic concept and add my own spin.
Hope you enjoy the adventure! I'd recommend checking back on November 16, as I usually update the adventure each year (like clockwork).

I just ran this adventure with my siblings and it was fantastic! Super fun, the personality created for the Creative Director was fun to RP! Thanks so much for giving my family a fun night in quarantine!

@Patrick Hoffman, really loved this adventure. Made some additional content for it if you wanted to add it here to help out. Did some audio stuff so all the dialogue from the big boss modron is all robotic and whatnot. Let me know if you are interested. Maybe I can send the stuff over to you?

Hey! Thanks for messaging. Sadly we didn't end up producing anything, but I do have a new update for the adventure coming out soon, might look into doing something like this again. Cheers!

I have played this through twice during its beta and this is a really fun dungeon that is both humorous and challenging. I ran this with both beginning players and more seasoned rpgs and both found it funny and for one set almost deadly. This can be run as a very straight forward and structured dungeon or can get really weird (something I feel is a must with inter dimensional beings). It is a good mix of both puzzles and combat while challenging the players in familiar but new ways. Particular favorite with me and playgroups was the new ooze and the morality tests.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
