A Dark Veil Falls is a classic, low level adventure designed for a group of 3 to 4 3rd level players. It should take about 3 to 6 hours to play through.

This is the fourth and final adventure in the miniseries. The first adventure of the miniseries is A Chance Encounter.

In addition to the adventure, there are a few of maps of the adventure area as separate jpeg files. There is also a printerfriendly version of the adventure

Is there any answer to questions asked in the Reviews of the four adventures?

I am planning to run this adventure from A Chance Encounter next week as my first-time DM'ing for first-time players, but would like to know what Zalath's plan was, and - for example - in what battle the Kobolds died, and what was in the letter from Fared to Chariz. A few things I can easily fill in myself, but these seem quite important for the story.
Otherwise I'd probably be letting them kill the boss during his effort to flee.

This also helps in giving the cleric some background in the form of a vision that sent him to Myrehall.

Ok, so.. while the campaign is well written.. there are many...many plot holes. I ended up rewritting much of it.

So, I made up my own archs to finish it.
-The letter was a secretive and hidden message detailing explicit magic spells to finish it.
-Zalath, was an illusion used by Chariz who masterminded this entire plot to get items from the adventurers that in my campaign, were warded against him. I also made it that after Zalath "disappears", when the travelers return to the town to collect the reward they find that Chariz's tower/home/cottage is gone. Through some explicit roleplay they learn that Fared was a pawn and also very old. He tells the truth of Chariz's power before he rapidly ages and turns to dust. Then As he does, the entire town metamorphs and they see its an old abandoned village and all the "occupants" were undead creatures that made been manipulated with extensive magic to conceal the town. They were such low level when they began the adventure...See more

That's the big question. When a DM chooses to flesh out this story, they have to decide if they are going to go with:
A- Chariz is the big bad.
B- Fared is a double agent working for Zalath. He really wasn't captured by Kabolds in the beginning, just pretending.
C- have Zalath working alone and come up with another plot point for the letters between Chariz and Fared and the artifacts.

or just have all the loose ends stay unconnected (which isn't a real option for most of us).

Here is my interpretation of the events:

1. Chariz is a good person and was once a member of a secret society for mages interested in collecting magical artifacts from before the Spellplague, but now he works on his own.

2. Zalath is the apprentice of Chariz who went to betray his master and steal his research. He became a powerful necromancer obsessed with with finding a way to harness the power of ancient magical artifacts or even the Spellplague. Zalath manipulates and corrupts the kobolds by posing as their deity, Kurtulmak, and tells them to do his bidding, for example raid dungeons, collect magical artifacts, kidnap villagers for rituals, etc.

3. The blank letters from the first module were sent to Chariz by an old friend from the secret magic society. They contain information about a location of an abandoned dungeon in the Wolfpine Forest that contains a magical artifact from before the Spellplague. This is where the second module takes place.

4. Fared,...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
