As the title says, I made this product as collective guide in playing (or running) a D&D game. I don’t describe the actual rules in this game, such as how to read dice formula or what advantage means; the Basic Rules already do that perfectly. I instead try to emphasize the big picture, such as what is D&D truly about? Does every action the players take must involve a dice roll? Things like that.

In doing so, I believe I also made this guidelines a very readable material for new players or DMs. It way shorter than the actual Basic Rules, and is more focused in things that provides good expectation. This product don’t lean too heavily on fantasy narrative or gameplay examples to keep it lean (although this product still provide it, especially when I think I know another evocative example).

My purpose is not to build a better version of the Basic Rules, but to merely provide different perspective on it. Maybe, just maybe, things I rewrite could open up your perspective to things you find confusing before, or that doesn’t resonant too well; I also don’t modify parts that I thought was perfect.

The D&D Basic Rules are a free product, and thus I will never “force” people to spend money on this. The system is pay-what-you-want because, well, tips are welcome and it supports the DMsguild as well.
