Paths of Legend

NOTE: this contribution is now obsolete, as a new, better version of it has been included in my Multiversatility – Player’s Options Pack.

Two of my first house rules for D&D, back when the guild was yet to come, were the Path of the Brutal Brawler and the Path of Madness, two new archetypes for the barbarian class. As the DM’s Guild came out, I made two PDFs with the two subclasses, and despite never being true best sellers they were quite liked by the community.

That was more than a year ago.

Now those two primal paths, along with new class options for the barbarian, come out in a new, better iteration. The previous archetypes cost $ 0.40 each, while now for one dollar you can have them all, plus two new subclasses and a – still work-in-progress, remember it – variant, Dexterity-focused barbarian.

Among the PATHS OF LEGEND, you will find the following:

PATH OF THE BRUTAL BRAWLER

Yeah, he started all those fancy movements with his hands and that ridiculous dance of kicks and chops. I took one or two hits, then replied with a single cross, right on the jaw. He's still drooling the floor.

Damned spineless monks... bring me another beer.”

PATH OF THE CURSED

It was the mind flayer. I was only seven years old, I don’t remember the details. All I know is that they did… something… to me. Thankfully I was rescued by an adventuring party, and I really have no memory of what happened… at least, not until my rage kicks on.”

PATH OF DISCIPLINE

When I enter a rage, I set aside my humanity in order to became a monster, a slaughtering beast that revels in the smell of blood. Only my stern discipline sets me aside from the bloodthirsty creatures we hunt down.”

PATH OF MADNESS

I saw many a barbarian during my days as an adventurer, but someone like him? This drooling idiot that swings a hammer while laughing, making faces and sticking his tongue out? Not a chance. He's speaking of tea parties with pumpkin octopuses fried in dragon milk, did you hear him? How could an orc possibly know about tea parties? We must be extremely cautions: he may be our ally, but he is surely a dangerous ally with such an unstable mind.”

As with all my class handbooks, I plan to progressively expand the Paths of Legend as new ideas – and the mechanics to embody them within D&D – come to my mind. And, as the price would consequently rise, the early birds will catch the cheaper worm.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
