Welcome to the Great Dale!

This book provides all of the setting, story, and character options needed for adventures in the Great Dale.

The Great Dale is a land in the Forgotten Realms found within the Unapproachable East, a long journey from the Sword Coast. It is a land filled with ancient and terrible secrets waiting to be discovered. Here, powerful druids clash with the fiendish taint left behind by an ancient empire. Opportunity and intrigue await those who join the rush of factions seeking to control the rejuvenated city of Uthmere. Above all, the Great Dale is a land of adventure.

The Great Dale Campaign Guide is filled with exciting new ideas for Dungeon Master’s and
players to add to their home games. Inside you'll discover:

  • An overview of Dunwood, the Dale, the Forest of Lethyr and surrounding lands
  • A history of the Great Dale and the factions that influence the region.
  • A new player character race - the Volodni
  • 11 class archetypes such as the Nar Demonbinder, the Nentyar Hunter and Rauthmari Battle Mage
  • 3 new character backgrounds customized for the Great Dale
  • 6 feats including cooperative Circle Magic
  • 18 spells wielded by the Great Dale's mystics and learned wizards
  • 13 magic items used to tame a war-torn land
  • 15 unique NPCs waiting to help - or betray - adventurers
  • 13 new monsters to challenge players, including the Demon Lord Eltab
  • A collection of adventure ideas to create your own campaigns in the Great Dale.
We also have a FANTASY GROUNDS Version of the Great Dale guide if you're interested.

Check out the balanced and comprehensive REVIEW by Brandes Stoddard at Tribality.com. We received a 7.9/10, with high marks for our Settting and Monsters

"On material alone, this is a substantial work."

"The setting material in this book sheds a lot of the cruft and gets to the good stuff."

"...the setting material is strong, evocative, and feels immediately usable..."

"...the Great Dale does have connections to other parts of the Realms, but they’re minor enough that this is a great entry point to the Forgotten Realms, especially if you love the Mirkwood. If you don’t care one way or the other about the Realms, this is still a good contained setting with a lot of conflict and room for heroics."

As much as I'd like to, it probably won't be for quite a while.

Hey Joseph.
Thanks for the interest!
I've started outlining an adventure path for the Unapproachable East that I'd like to undertake, but I won't be in a position to work on it until later this summer.
There are a pair of existing products with adventures in or around the Great Dale you might consider:
1. Terror Beneath the Frozen Gate - a tier 1 adventure based in Joarl taking characters from level 1 to 5.
2. Dunwood - Demons, Druids, & Danger - filled with a number of short adventures by a collection of writers based around Dunwood.
Cheers,
Joe

I liked the PDF so much I bought the hardcover as well. I was wondering, since this is a DMsguild product, is it permissible to write an adventure that takes place in this campaign setting and putting it on the guild as well (as say, pay what you want)? Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words!
Re: creating supplements and adventures for anything published on the DM’s guild is both welcomed and encouraged! One of the great things about the guild is the ability to leverage works published by WOTC and independent creators. Make sure you read through the rules for posting work. We’d love to see what you create!

Appreciate the interest and understand the price point isn't cheap. Picking up Behold is great! You can't go wrong with something written by Emily!

While looking at the Volodni I noticed for weight its shows 110 x (height roll) x 2d4. Just wondering if that should be a + between the 110 and height roll. So far everything looks good, cant wait to get the hard cover and start something in this area.

Hmmm.. That would make for one really heavy character. I think you're correct 110 + (height roll) x 2d4. We missed that one. We'll need to update the .pdf this week.

I really wanted to build an index for the book. With the large amount of lore references, it could really use one, but I ran out of time. I may look to do something with it in the coming months and include as an update to the files.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
