Just ran this last night on fantasy grounds. This is a top-notch adventure. I has combat, roleplay, puzzles, the works. The map is excellent as well. So far the tenets of bane series has been a great series of adventures, and I look forward to running the rest. If you are looking for some quality, two-hour adventures that your players will love, do yourself a favor and pick these up.

I reaaly liked running this adventure and thought it had some innovative puzzels and a neat way to skip a combat encounter. My players also enjoyed themselves and we were to create a few good memories from this.

Really enjoyable adventure. I used this along with the other titles in this series to launch a campaign I am DMing. This was my first time jumping back into being a DM after a long time away from the game. The modules were very easy to understand and provided lots of good information on what was happening in the bigger arc (which I was choosing to use).

I did not run into any problems running the module and the players seemed to enjoy the adventure. This one had some fun, unique situations for the players to deal with and introduced some nice puzzles for them to solve. Within the arc of the Tenant of Bane series I appreciate that it is not until this third chapter that you do a typical dungeon dive.

I've recommended this entire series several times to other DMs looking for something to launch a campaign or that want something in the Moonsea area.

The Tenets of Bane series were the first Adventures I ever DM'd after reading tons of reviews. Very easy to follow. Very Easy to DM. I've ran this 3 times and the players always enjoy it! I Highly recomment the Tenets of Bane series!

This was my favorite of the series so far. I had to do a little bit of improv--they managed to quickly chase, capture, and interrogate/bribe the first kobold that ran from them, so it became Landeep. The riddles were a bit more challenging in this one, and it was fun being behind the screen watching their minds go through everything. I thought about not passing out the handout with the last riddle and just having people answer orally, but I liked with the "secret ballot" so to speak, that the players had to depend on their own thoughts, or their characters' ideals. It was an interesting insight into players.

I think my favorite thing about this series so far is that a lot of the fights are avoidable (such as by running from the ogres or persuading King Galinon to let them inspect the shell or answering the fire elemental riddle correctly). Modules by their nature kind of railroad players, but these allow the players to have some level of choice in how the modules are achieved.

I just realized I hadn't come on here to rate these amazing adventures! I first encountered this series as a player at the Gamex convention in Los Angeles in May 2018. I played the entire arc and I LOVED the story! Then, in October 2018, I ran this entire arc as a DM both in person and online. I am in love with Dave Zajac now because he put such lovely detail and heart into the series: the document layout, the beautiful color maps, the use of varied and little seen creatures from 5th Edition, the use of weather and exhaustion mechanics, a handicapable person with a great background, one of the only fun underwater adventures I've ever dealt with, and on and on. I was a turd to forget to write the review so today I was on my dmsguild update page when I saw that all 4 adventures had been updated for Season 8. This amazing creator went into each adventure and gave us 2 pages of detailed rewards info (including a page of just the magic items with tables that can be printed for each player) that is just as clear and to the point as everything else about these adventures. If you haven't played these 4 adventures yet, buy them and pass them to a DM who will run them. I doubt you will find a more interesting Tier 1 series than this. If you're a DM, buy this entire set now and enjoy your deep dive into the intricacies of Torm and Bane and all the fun you can have incorporating that into your roleplay.

WARNING: Possible Spoilers ahead.

I just finished running all 4 mods of the Tenets of Bane and wanted to say that this specific one is my favorite of the four. Simple but engaging puzzles and an interesting dungeon mini-plot, my players really felt for the kobolds. My only complaint is that the Derros besides the king are essentially fodder, and hardly a threat to the players. Even at the recommended level, the fight was essentially over once my party downed the spellcaster. I would suggest a derro lieutenant with beefed up stats or similar to make that fight more engaging.

The Fire Elemental is a potential TPK given the small space inside the room. My party failed the test and nearly wiped there and then, even at "Strong" without extra adjustments. Just something to note for DMs that prefer not to kill players.

The final third fight felt almost gratituous after that, I ended up "skipping" it by having the kobolds help them take down the cultists since we were nearly an hour overtime.

Overall though, its a very nice mini-puzzle dungeon.

Ratings:

  • Combat: 8.5/10 (derro fight is a bit boring, fire elemental may be too much for certain party comps)
  • Puzzles: 9/10 (all 3 sets of puzzles felt thematic and interesting, including the 4th test at the end)
  • Social: 8/10 (my players loved the kobolds, I got to do my minion voice so many times that session)
  • Explore: 6/10 (both paths in the mines don't really make any difference, rather linear approach though a lot of the exploration is tied to the puzzles. I would handwave a lot of the initial traveling.)

The group love the fact that they liberating a whole bunch of kobolds! It's such a great opportunity for role playing.

This module (and my flavors) made the party cleric cry for the kobolds. Literal tears hit their character sheet over the sacrifies and treatment of the kobolds who worshipped her as their queen and savior.

The story is fairly mundane to start but I spiced it up with a mine cart ride into the main chambers which stirred a rather intimidating course of combat. Short and sweet the main dangers to face are the parties own curiousity to dabble and stall over hustling plot. Ran about 30 minutes over due to the party insisting the kobold hoards needed to be in combat.

I ran all 4 of the Tenants of Bane series in one long session. We had a blast with these and they did not require a lot of prep time on my part to DM them. My players loved the way they were able to role play and avoid one of the larger battles and it allowed me as a DM to explain it all in a way that made it exciting and fun for them. With new players in the group, it showed them that there are times when good role playing can not only be fun but also make completing a task much easier. A good mix of role play, puzzle solving and combat. The cert will not help much as far as unlocking items for season 8, since it is an evergreen item.

I ran this and the other two initial quests in the Tenets of Bane series at RoleCall 2018. This was my first time DMing in a convention/open AL setting. These modules made for a great experience! Well written and organized, with box text that really lends to role playing and conveying the mood rather than boring your players. These adventures were a breeze to run, and they make it easy to keep the players moving forward without railroading them through the plots. Tyrant of the Forgotten Forge is my favorite of the three. The NPC, Landeep, is fun to roleplay, and the dramatic 'boss fight' is, well... I'll just say that if you read it you will really appreciate it, and you'll truly love it after running it!

Great blend of exploration, role play, puzzles and combat.

The player's expectations regarding what they'll find in the mine are delightfully subverted. I found the module to be well designed to reward deeper engagement with the material, without railroading the party into any one approach.

Do note that King Arkus is potentially quite deadly, though in a way that I found refreshingly fun for Tier 1. Adjust the gruesomeness of the Derro based on your table's appetite for such things and their sympathy for the slaves.

The extra optional combat is a fun add on. Also note that you can reduce the difficulty by timing the confrontation so that the back line of the party has cover. That way they're still facing a convincing opposition, but will be in a better position to cope.

The map pack is really nice. I found it made setting everything up quick and easy. Just cover and reveal as you go.

This is a great adventure. Your players will love the puzzles and you will enjoy running the fight scenrios. I don't want to spoil it, but the last encounter is not something you get to do very often in an adventure.
