This is one of the trashiest adventure I have ever played or run, but the plot is amazing. However, you should consider not allowing the celestial in this adventure in the party to help.

When I ran the adventure, nothing ridiculous has happened. When I played it, on the other hand... BBEG has failed a saving throw against this ally's plane shift spell and was sent to Mechanus... Oops, great fight ended in just one failed saving throw because BBEG does not have Legendary Resistance.

Thank you for your review and rating! I can understand it being rough; I definitely prefer the newest layout template and these three were my first adventures (I want to spend my life continuing to learn how to write better). Tomakas is just too powerful for most parties unless they trick or make a deal with him. As a DM I've had parties who asked Theema Aga'Rith to trap Tomakas in a plane not of his choosing and they were glorious endings! Tomakas in Barovia! In the Nine Hells! It makes me want to write mini stories of his time there and how he got out. And he will get out. He will be back. I have plans for him!

As I said for the previous modules, the strength of this trilogy is the story. My players were very invested in Theema (and later Eka and Saultrophine) so that made for very compelling choices throughout this adventure. I will say, the major change I made was with the all-or-nothing initiative rolling. Rather than lock everyone into an initiative from the get go, I had players re-roll initiative at each major phase (so against the Mouther, exploring the Peacestone Cavern, Saultrophine, and finally Tomakas). It gave people a chance to, frankly, not be last for the entire game, for which several were very thankful, hahah! I certainly understand the use of initiative from the get-go as a device to amp up the tension and sense of time, but I thought these were natural enough pauses (basically like cinematics!) that warranted a re-roll.

Also, as someone else mentioned, I got to make very little use of the Far Realms Chaos effect in battle. Players see a Beholder and stay way back, hahah! If the chaos spread 10 ft at a time instead of 5 ft, I think I'd have gotten more traction with it. Otherwise, it wasn't much beyond flavor as I think it only affected players twice (and one was to throw me a bone, hahah!).

Again, an incredible module filled with amazing Quality of Life add-ons for the DM (COMBAT TRACKER!!! Stat blocks in order of encounter!!! Printable maps!!!) that, combined with the heart of the story, really pushes this adventure into the top tiers. Well done! We all enjoyed the heck out of it!

I'm glad you made changes as you needed, which is also acceptable for the Far Realm effects. I get the party to go to the portal by describing tentacles poking through (when it's 5ft), and Eka desperately asks the characters to help reach her son. I also switch between positive and negative effects. I think it's a good idea to make the chaos spread by 10ft, maybe even have it spread by 5, 10, 20, and then 40. Please tell the players I said, "Hi! Thanks for playing!"

Maybe some mistakes before the corrections on EXP were given out so my parties got that sweet 20k exp rewards. Then again through the dice gods and some very feisty spells the parties were able to murder hobo everything in the module so it kind of balanced out. The fight is a great slap to the wrist and curb to make sure the characters realize that sometime matters are just outside their power to handle.

Good conclusion to the series, however, I must say that it only works if the majority of the players have played at least one of the other two modules. It has great social and combat encounters, though they are rather unconventional and may not be enjoyed by all. I do not think this module works well if you are playing with a rotating group of players (such as a public table at an LGS), which are far more likely to be "murderhobos" and not even realize a diplomatic solution is possible.

I also consider the setting of the town of Emudomier to be rather interesting, though the players will not get to experience it much and there is less focus in this module than in the first module.

The most important thing to keep in mind even before reading the module is that the mechanics of the encounters in this module are meant to frame the classic choice of negotiation or agression in an interesting way.

How the module does this is that it forces the encounter to be in initiative, and tells the DM to tell the players it is because of the pacing of the situation. This is in truth meant to address the risk-benefit analysis in a regular game: players run into enemies capable of speach, single player declares that he makes overtures of peace, and gets to roll persuasion without any real risk.

In this module, you're already in combat, and presumably need to spend your actual combat actions trying to negotiate, risky, and more realistic in my opinion. Of course, the reward is much higher, you get the support of an incredibly crucial NPC, and the faster you do it, the faster she can help you prepare for the "boss" encounters.

Whether the module satisfactorily conveys this is up for debate, but I enjoyed that it at least tried this approach, it was incredibly refreshing.

Specific notes:

  • There are no minis for the monsters Eka can arrive with, among other things.
  • It may be helpful to claim that you are asking the players to roll initiative because of the earthquake.
  • The randomized mechanics of the penultimate encounter seem super cool but it is nearly impossible for the players to experience them if they are too cautious, in fact my players managed to avoid the mechanics completely because of their range, consider making the initial area start at 3x3.
  • My players completely failed to ask many follow up questions in order to get the NPCs to reveal all of the background information in all three of the modules, I chose to have the NPCs dole out information in small chunks each round, but I do not feel that this was the best solution in retrospect.
  • The spell lists of the NPCs are extremely esoteric, as a DM think through the implications and take note of what the NPCs can do, and more interestingly, what they cannot do.

Thank you for your review! You put so much detail into it. I'm working on some tight deadlines right now but I'm making note of what you said and as soon as I can will try to address what I can (ex: including a wyvern and pegasus mini). Thank you!

Oh that must of added another layer of complication but sounds like they all met up together again. Glad you enjoyed the fast-paced encounters.

Hoo Hoo this three part mod running without reading it before I opened it up that day was the most fun I have had as a DM and my players loved this conclusion as well. The material at the end was very helpful in my position running the adventure by thesthe seat of my pants. I feel it just added to the "Pandamonium" of the trilogy for my table of players. The chaotic nature of this adventure and the very different nature of the NPCs and plot will stand out to me for a long time and I think it will stand out to my players as well. Ultimately I would say that is adventure has so much style, solid writing, and memorable moments. I loved every moment and the ending with the chaotic effects was my favorite mechanic and had an amazing table of effects!

Bravo

Played a few days ago with my players: they really enjoyed the conclusion of this series, even if it was a 4h-adventure, they were really into it. The story is fashinating and interesting: one of my player is looking for every other adventure in which there are items or references to the Peacesmith order, while another one was really moved by Saultrophine backstory.Mastering this chapter can be a little difficult though (certain events are timed), but the supplement is way too useful and helps a lot in organising the table (i loved the table tents with the effects of the far realm).

I hope we will have other adventures linked to the story written here (or, if they are, could someone tell me where they are?).

I'm so glad you all had fun and that the tents were as helpful as I hoped. At the moment these are the only adventures referencing Emudomier or the Peacesmith. I'm working on more for future release. In the meantime, as a DM you could alter NPCs to be Peacesmith--describe the assistant to royalty as wearing the clasped-hand Peacesmith symbol on their tunic and using negotiation techniques like those listed on the handout, put a weathered tattoo on a farmer who turns out to be a retired Peacesmith, have them speak with a child who whispers "The Peacestone glowed when I touched it too. I'm gonna be like you when I grow up." Thank you for the review! You can follow me on Twitter for updates, @MaatCrook.
