Decent adventure with a lot of strong encounters to challenge players and many places to add some good storytelling as they explore the mine. I would have likely given the adventure another star had there not been so many errors inside the module itself.

  • The magic item listed is not part of the adventure and needs to be removed
  • The module refers to multiple handouts that are not included ( I think there should be pictures of the posters mentioned in the foreman's shed as well.)
  • The diamonds given at the end in the module say they are worth 250gp and in the summary at the end say 2500gp
  • There are descriptions of rooms repeated in the module itself.

I did the work to make the adventure work and it would be great if the author would bring this module up to the normal BMG standard that always brings me back to their products.

Mixed bag. Core 1-1 through 1-3, while linear, are all pretty well paced and they all end with a bang. Core 2-1 feels like a 5 in 1 intro module, but the scenarios and roleplay are varied and memorable. 2-2? This is not what I expected, and not in a good way.

The good stuff: The story award is cool (the Author is good at this) and the core premise is cool, and the structure of the mod is logistically sound

The bad stuff: Editing issues (listed as APL 1 AND APL 3, incorrect treasure listed, the sigil handout, a reference to a slope that that doesn't exist on the map) Extremely disappointing rewards relative to the high potential lethality of the mission (a party of level 1's have a very low chance to walk away from the final encounter) , wonky pacing, and, frankly, I expected more than the "investigate the mine, 3 fights" formula from Oubliette of Iron. The best hook of the entire story (" The Faithful") is wayyyy too easy to miss, and doesn't effect the outcome at all - there could have been some good RP and and mechanics built around this. The illusion maze, which is basicallly flavor as written in the module (it takes 4 hours). Huge missed opportunity here for a puzzle scenario.

I replaced Parabald with Trushee, because there's no reason the guy hunted by the Cyric followers and nearly assassinated by a shadow demon is gonna go back and try to infiltrate their ranks.

DM's, do something with the maze, make it mean something.

Decent adventure overall. But ther omission of handout 1 detracts from the challenge that would otherwise make this a better module. Encounters are well thought out and, as with the rest in this series, the roleplay opportunities are well thought out and can really enhance the entire adventure.

Ran this for group of seven 1st level players, this was an entry module before taking them (eventually) to Chult for Tomb of Annihilation fun. It took three sessions, 3ish hours each, and 5 character deaths to complete this module. It was fun, players enjoyed it, alot of the player death was due to TOA's death curse in effect for S7 of AL. Still having two players stamped out early was unsual. The encounters are exceedingly tough, with penelties to range combat amoung other things. The final encounter for my group size recommended two emissaries and we ran with that, but combined with the additional machine damage it was devestating to the party. I would recommend instead using one Emissary and a Cult Fanatatic instead.

Otherwise outside of AL, my group generally prefers to skip the massive damage rule, or at least for level 1 anyway and this module is a good reason why we do. It's already a lottery whether level 1 characters surive basic encounters, one critical, or 'boss' special breath attack can kill anyone. The first encounter took a player out instantly with a really good poison damage roll.

Parts of the module were not edited well, there is a page of magic items that do not appear in the module at all, treasure/reward overall is fairly sparse in this one. The high difficulty also means your players will likely end up using their faction charity for the free rez. On the good side the plot was interesting and I was able to alter it as a hook leading to AL S7 rather easily.

Combat was really difficult for the players. Failed saves means the player is out for the rest of the module. The players were relieved at the end of the module because it was over.

A well written adventure, with solid skill challenges. Some of the encounters are quite deadly. Decent rewards for real risk, many folks will play this several times (on different characters) to get a real feel for the content, as it moves the story along quite well.
