Lovely little mini adventure. Looks nice and easy to use, too. Luckily, I have a character who's backstory is going to fit nicely into this, so it's going to get dropped into the campaign.

This short adventure is well written and gets to the point, easy to fit into most games.

I used this in my Curse of Strahd campaign as the players were traveling from little Barovia to Tser Pool. I chose to do something different with Doru, so this served as a good introduction to weaker vampires. I'd suggest changing up how the Eli turns into a vampire to more align with how Strahd changes others in to vampire spawn so the lore matches up. Otherwise, it was a good encounter. The scarecrow screaming for help from the side of the road scared them to bits!

Ran this for my tabletop gaming club, including one guy that plays a lot, my daughter who is 11, and a woman and her son (13) who had never played before. Our club runs for only x2 hours and this fit in perfectly. It was very easy to DM, including adding some extra elements just for fun. I added in some bats in an attic and a berserker battleaxe. The story hook and mystery are great, but very light as it is written as a brief side adventure. I recommend this to anyone looking for a spooky interlude for their campaign or for someone, like me, running a very short game for a group of random adventurers.

A solid adventure you can seemlessly drop into Curse of Strahd or another horrific campaign. Running it was effortless and fun. Simple yet compelling, it's really very enjoyable.

Death in the Cornfields is a great little adventure! It has a solid build up to a mystery for your players to enjoy and a MASSIVE finale that led my group into a very long follow up in a homebrew setting.

If you're looking for a dark and moody piece of content that brings dread and player choice to the forefront, definitely get this!

Obviously, this doesn't have a lot of combat and the combat it does have needs to be run well to land. This isn't a hack and slash. Dread is the name of the game. But is so finely done in the horror and RP department!

Great encounter to use as a flavor set up for the party just before they get sucked into Barovia, or some other dark fey setting. Lets the party whet their appetite on vampires and the hopeless theme of Barovia.

This was a really well-written side adventure to introduce my players to vampires. I'm relatively new to the DM thing, and I was able to adjust this readily and easily for our game. The players were ready to move on and hunt down the offending vampire creator. I paired this with Witch of Underwillow.

More of an encounter than an adventure, this is a great little moral quandry to throw at your players.

Great little module, highly customizable for your world. My players loved it as a short side-quest.

This is exactly what I look for in a quick one-night module. It's only 3 pages, but then it's only a buck. The value in this module is in the core concept and how the few NPC relationships and motivations support some mystery and invesigation (without being too complicated). Of course, there is an opportunity for a challenging encounter. I picked it up on short notice and was DM-ing it after minimal prep.

There are no maps inlcuded, and this is fine, since they would be of the generic "farm/field/farmhouse" variety.

Death in the Cornfields is a fantastic standalone adventure that truly brings the themes of Ravenloft home in a single session. It's the kind of story that DMs love to tell, and exactly the kind of story players love to get their hooks into. Excellent work, Merric!

One problem with using this in Barovia. The premise that the kid (the scarecrow, the soon to be vampire spawn) is put outside to die in the sun does not work in Barovia.

As it states on page 24 of Curse of Strahd

"By the will of the Dark Powers, the sun never fully shines in the lands of Barovia." ... "Barovian daylight is bright light, yet it isn't considered sunlight for the purpose of effects and vulnerabilities, such as a vampire's, tied to sunlight."

The only way I can think to reconcile this at the moment is to play as if the parents don't know this, and are going on what is typical vampire lore. They think this will work to kill the son, but obviously it never will, and he will turn no matter what (unless the party intervenes in a more brutal fashion).

Creator Reply:
If you check the Barovian Lore in Curse of Strahd, you'll find this: "About Strahd and vampires, the Barovians believe the following: * Running water burns a vampire like acid, and sunlight causes a vampire to burst into flame." It's funny, all us players know about sunlight in Barovia, but the original intention is that it's meant to be a surprise to everyone - and the Barovians don't know any better! :)

This short, deceptively simple side trek is a nifty tragedy that should particularly appeal to groups heavily into role-playing - especially those who like to deal with morally fraught situations.

Well written, short adventure. The challenge is more from choices or decisions the PC's will have to make, than any one encounter. I believe you could run this multiple times and have each group approach it differently.
