This is one of the most useful books from older editions I've found. There is just so much detail about each of the deities. So much better than wikis. I wouldn't read this cover to cover ever but once I've decided to incorporate a diety into my campaign, I'm immediately going to turn to this book to get details.

Just so you know what you are getting, this is a second edition book that has ~2 pages with incredibly tiny font about each diety, the church and the beleifs. From what I can tell, in 2nd edition, all of the gods actually physically manifested themselves and walked around faerun (and they are all statted up). All of the stat blocks and crunch are essentially worthless to me but thats not what I'm looking for. The fluff is just so good. Words for prayers, how the church is orgnaized, brief descriptions of rituals, taboos, desciptions of temples and symbols, relationships with other gods. It is really fantastic fluff for roleplaying.

If you found the god descriptions in SCAG lacking, have a cleric in your party or want to do anything with religion, then pick this book up.

This is one of my favorite (definitely in the top 3) sourcebooks for 2E Forgotten Realms because it provides such great depth of detail for each of the deities within its pages. Just reading the entries sparks idea after idea for ways to make the various faiths in this setting come alive for the players, from divine guidance and intervention to religious/political intrigue. A player reading the entry for their patron deity gains a much better understanding of the faith, which can help to add depth in how they roleplay their character...rather than just a deity's name on their character sheet.

The follow-up sourcebooks (Demihuman Deities and Powers & Pantheons) follow suit. All three soucebooks together provide a LOT more information than the 3E Faiths and Pantheons - which tried to capture the FR deities in one sourcebook, but with much shorter entries - and are invaluable to DM and player alike. Another great benefit with these books is that most of the material (fluff like dogma, holy days and ceremonies, priestly ranks and attire, adventuring garb, centers of worship, etc.) is free of mechanics, so it applies to any edition you want to play. The deity-specific spells and the avatar entries can be adapted by an experiened DM.

F&A, DD and P&P are still my go-to books when I'm looking for unique, character-specific plot hooks, ideas for creating interesting puzzles, a supernatural reason for why X happened (or to introduce a strange occurance), ideas for unique magic items, or anything else related to FR deities.

A must have for any 2nd Edition game being set in the Forgotten Realms. Especially if you are playing a priest!

A good second ed AD&D find. I had this book in hard format back in my second edtion days, but the GF decided to throw a tempertamtrum and got rid of it (and most of my RPGs). I'm slowly rebuilding my collection again, but having the .PDF is better for me due to I can copy/paste what I need to a word doc and print out only that section.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Has the information about the FR gods that is needed that 3.5 doesn't cover.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: The .PDF looks a little funky on the screen, but its overall fine quality work.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

I have always thought this was one of the best AD and D sourcebooks on the market. The information in it is wonderful. The scan is pretty good but the print is small so I had to zoom in so my aging eyes would be able to read it. Tremendous book and definitely worth the money.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Great information!!!<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Nothing to be honest.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

Always loved this book back when I was playing 2nd ed. Has very detailed information for creating a believable cleric character for the Forgotten Realms, down to the dogma of the faith, holy days, and specific observances/rituals for that faith. With this information, the party cleric is not just a walking heal machine, but a vital member of the group. Note for playing 3rd edition: converting this information to 3rd or 3.5 format will mesh almost seamlessly with the 3rd edition Forgotten Realms supplement because the information almost verbatim in the FR core book.

Also recommend Powers and Pantheons for the full spectrum of FR deities.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Very detailed, helps create a three dimensional clergy for any FR god.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Nothing.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

As an avid FR fan I was more than happy to get this in PDF format (I only have so much room on my shelves, ye know). Since Faiths & Pantheons (3rd Edition) didn't provide as much detail on the various deities, Faiths & Avatars (alolng with its sister publications Powers & Pantheons and Demihuman Deities) is invaluable for those who want to know more about the FR gods and goddesses. Notes on worship, raiment, spells, and affiliated orders. If you love the Forgotten Realms you'll want to have this on-hand.
