While this adventure does a decent job of introducing the setting of the city of Mulmaster, and includes RP, puzzles, and combat, I feel that the delivery of the story elements is somewhat clumsy.

I will admit to having a soft spot for this module that may colour my impressions of it. This module represents the first time, and very likely the last time, that I ever had the chance to run the world premiere of an Adventurer's League module. No one else will care about that detail, but I'm still proud of it, heh.

One difficulty I've experienced with this adventure, is the introduction. In the interest of brevity, it assumes that all players agree to be teleported back into Phlan. I've had some players balk at what they consider "railroading", but honestly, if they want to adventure today, then they've already agreed. Just be aware that occasionally some will balk.

After that minor hiccough, it's a wonderful infiltration and extraction mission that leads up to a final decision. I will agree with other reviewers that have said it feels very strange that the "correct" decision is to avoid the finale that the last 13 adventures have prepared you for, but I think that it also lends to a very interesting philosophical RP element. Sometimes, being the best hero you can be means NOT dying in a blaze of glory, and instead helping others survive the day.

That said, the blaze of glory is ALWAYS happy to oblige!

An engaging module that provides both RP elements, and enjoyable combats. It's a small shame that the adventure doesn't do more with the titular Pool of Radiance itself, but I suppose the excuse is that such magics are well beyond the scope of a tier 2 module.

Raiding a dragon's lair is a great adventure hook. Fighting said dragon is a great adventure. Fighting through some jarring, despite being tiny, editing mistakes is less great. I'd rate it 4/5 if not for those mistakes.

This adventure WILL run longer than the standard 4 hours. I've run three times and never once been able to get it under 6 hours. It is great fun, however, so running long isn't much of a problem, if you have the time.

While this module feels almost jarringly out of place in the season 1 storyline, it does also provide a break from the city of Phlan and its various intrigues and goings on. It may make some characters long for a return to Phlan, though, with the frustrations of a genuinely random maze, and the influences of the chaos matter.

This module also lends well to being injected into other storylines, with only minor changes to the starting point.

If the players are not familiar with the events of the tier 1 season 1 adventures, much of the assumed connection to the NPCs will be missing, and the DM will need to fill that gap. Luckily, watching a fully grown green dragon tear apart the castle and its defenses provides an EXCELLENT motivation for the characters to get their tasks done quickly, regardless of familiarity with the NPCs.

If the DM is not religiously on top of the pacing, this module will very easily run much longer than the intended 4 hours. If you have the time, though, it's worth it; there's some really fun combats within.

RP elements galore! A socially-minded party can get through this module with very little combat. A murder-minded party will face combat at every turn and likely learn very little of the story elements involved, but such is the risk of an RP heavy module.

Encounters wiuth Jeny Greenteeth are never disappointing for the DM!

If your group strongly favors the shoot first, shoot later approach, a very large portion of this module may go straight over their heads and seem maybe a little boring even. A lot of this module depends on characters interacting with at least a couple lizardfolk NPCs. Those interactions can lead to some very interesting RP elements, but those with more of a murderhobo bent wont ever know those elements are there.

As others have said, this module teaches players the important of pacing themselves! A lot of RP and investigation in the first half, with some really interesting combats in the second half. Not least of which is the characters' first encounter with a true dragon (if following these modules in order)!

A combination of both investigative roleplaying and short dungeon crawl, this module doesn't do anything exceptional, but remains both satisfying to play and run. The invistigation portion can push you over the standard run-time for these modules if the players aren't particularly into it, so a DM may need to be prepared to mitigate that. The short dungeon in the last half manages to tick all the boxes for a solid dungeon crawl, without any real standout moments.

This adventure is an excellent catacomb crawl. A classic undead-filled Dungeons & Dragons romp.

The combats are both interesting and well-designed, and the discoveries within continue to deliver more story than the Tyranny of Dragons hardcover books.

This one module does a better job of giving the players background information on the entire Tyranny of Dragons storyline season that the enitrety of both books in that storyline do. If you want to inject some backstory into the Horde of the Dragon Queen campaign, you;d be hard-pressed to find a better way to do it than to insert this module somehow.

Also, who can pass up fighting pirates at sea, in a storm, right?

It's hard to go wrong when it all starts with a tavern brawl. The dark secrets of Sokol Keep will happily show you that it's not impossible, however!

A solid tavern-to-dungeon-and-back adventure that gives you something to sink your shortsword into.

This module provides an excellent introduction to Dungeons & Dragons in a neat series of short mini quests. It also works very well as a first module for a new Dungeon Master to try their hand at running, with the very well written DM instructions in each mission.
