This module was little trickier to run as I felt the map given for the crypt was a bit off. I am a map kinda of guy so when you stat something in the text, "you enter a room and see a lamp in the center of the room." I expect to see on the map a indicator for a lamp. The room with the 5 skeleton/horses not there on the map yet it is in the text, the second crypt room a pillar and two armored statues, not there on the map. Additionally, show a contection from a secret passage to its entry point something like S1 on the entry point into the first secret passage matches up to S1 on the intended passages that is when the passage are not connected on the map, like the map given in this mod.

I concur with Justin S., just where in the heck did the bat googles (goggles of night vision) come from in the module. I had the vampire toss them at the party, "Here is the treasure you seek, NOW BE OFF FOOLS!"

I recommend that in the end encounter have the Vampire state, "My slumber has too often been interrupted by you treasure seeking fools. Prehaps in return for me not draining every drop of blood from you miserable bodies you could be of service to me?" This would be a great lead into mod three where he asks the party to put an end to the makers of these useless treasure maps.

I highly recommend to any DM that has yet to start Dragon Heist run these three modules on your players first then start Dragon Heist.

I played this with some very seasoned D&D players and they really enjoyed all three mods. The only negative feedback i have are the glyphs, I had to make up glyphs for each area and then how did those glyphs interact with the map, basically when does a new glyph appear but that was easy to wing. One of my characters solved the puzzle before they made it to the third glyph, oh well he got inspiration for showing initiative.

From a DM perspective, the story moved along quickly once the party figured out what exactly they needed to do with the map and I laid out the map of Waterdeep to allow them to navigate to each objective quickly enough, to include the optional play, enabling them to finish the module in the alloted time, we did this for a CON event.

I highly recommend to any DM that has yet to start Dragon Heist run these three modules on your players first then start Dragon Heist.

This is a great introduction module for Eberron and Sharn. Not much opportunity to explore Sharn but I did give the characters a good introduction to the City of Towers, the three levels, and the interactions of some of the magics, which take place in Sharn. I explained some of the differences between Faerun play and Eberron most notably the aircraft of all shapes and sizes, the mechanical contraptions moving about, and some of the characters one could run into around Sharn. I did not provide a backgroud history to Sharn, not enough time to do that in a 2 -4 hour module.

For the actual play the characters and I were a little confused with the ariel assualt between the two ships specifically when they moved from one ship to the other they find that EVERYONE is dead, which was hard to explain, I mean just seconds ago you were fighting and then just the ZERO pre-gens survive, what?

I did have them encounter one patrol (bandit capt and three bandits) and every character went to 1 or 2 hp in the first round, that's after I downed the stats on the four bad guys. Luckily Xen the shipwright and Sivas the gnome intervened and helped the players escape if not they would all have died.

I enjoyed the ending, I opted for the automatic crossbow mount to intervene after the bad guy threatened the players on the ship.

Overall a good story, might need a little tweaking to give the DM a better explination on the ship to ship combat and results of the crew.

Cannot wait to run more Eberron story lines.

Tons of combat and tons of DC checks plenty for the DM to choose from and keep the game going for two hours and it really comes down to the DM on ending the game, when you had enough you just bring in the baron and your done. Very anti climactic at the end, join the baron, leave, or fight. Again though poorly edited the Baron offers a story award, you get to be a friend of the baron, big deal, so things go a little easier in Mulmaster, like what for example? Just a really blah ending to a blah set of modules.

Which leaves me to ask, why are CCC-GARY04-09 really good modules and then 01-03 are absolutely horrid?

Of the three ccc gary 1, 2, 3 this one was better written then gary01 or gary 03. The moving floor, once the characters figured out the pattern, as they had the map from gary01, they easily crossed the floor with no issue, which seemed disappointing at first but this allowed time for combat in the second area of play.

The only heart ache I had with this one is the large snake, which is thrity feet long and takes up the hallway, and cannot turn around. SERIOUSLY WOTC go to a zoo and watch a snake or you tube it, a 20 foot python IS NOT FIVE WIDE and it can easily turn back around on itself. On top of the lack or reality you did not check your stat block and included with the snake a fire damage ability with no attack / damage stats.

A complicated pile of goo that was poorly edited and tested. No story award at end of module for leaving armor and weapons behind. Poor descriptive story line for example, three doors are mentioned in the first level and then out of nowhere a fourth door appears allowing the characters to go down to the next level. Why is that no mentioned in the room description. All my players wanted to know is how did everyone survive the poison gas attack except for the role players, the excuse I gave them was barely plausible. This was not a two hour module, the fight in the bath house, even reducing the APL one level lower was still a lenghty fight, 6 players and 11 bad guys 2 minutes per fight let's see math in public one round of combat 34 minutes. I had to start fudging dice to get the game done and I still went over on time. This module and the other two modules should be removed and edited for better play.

This is a well written story that moves along quickly and here are two of the aspects that we found worked well; not a ton of DC checks our group finds that too many DC checks slows the game down especially in situations where only one or two players can really participate, the story allowed good interaction between the characters and the NPC's especially with the brawl at the Laughing Goblin. We used this module to introduce a new player to the AL system as it did not overwhelm them with too much technical details and the monters encountered were tier appropriate yet still challenging. The only bad thing, which could not be avoided, is this module has good drops as far as magic and gold that for the former is now unlocked but as the latter goes a ton of useless words.

DDEX 01-04:Dues for the Dead, now this is what I am talking about the first "D" in D&D, and the first real dungeon event in the DDEX 01-XX series, ya I know Skokol Keep not much of dungeon more like a cave, in any event the players get to run the full gauntlet of dungeon baddies, traps, NPC, monsters, and what's this a dragon cultist. The only drawback here was that this is a two hour module but to give it justice, especially at a 7 player table, took me 3 1/2 hours to complete. Along with editing WOTC really ought to think about adjusting the times in some of these modules.

DDEX 01-3: Shadows Over the Moonsea, PIRATES and ghost pirates to boot. A great module to get players to think about what do you do if you are not on land? Is using my fire spell / attack such a good idea on a ship? What about my movement? The standard land battle occurs but the boss fight in the end requires the players to choose spells wisely.

DDEX 1-1 in five parts: I cannot say enough on how great DDEX 1-1 Defiance in Phlan has been to me as a DM for teaching others either how to play D&D or getting those that already do play introduced into Adventurer's League play. The quick one shot one mission modules plus the introductory faction play makes explaining D&D, AL, and factions rather easy within a two hour time slot. At Omaha Comincon I was able to introduce 14 new D&D AL players to the realm of Faerun this past weekend using this module. The only bad thing is that all the modules need some serious editing on structure I found a lot of story disconnects for which I improvised upon in the modules.

DDAL 05-01 in five parts : Treasures of the Broken Hoard. I like these one shot missions, quick and easy a good entry point for new players especially for those that just got their feet wet in DDEX 01-01 and are looking for something different. The only down side is no faction play in this module. Recommend WOTC go back into these modules correct errors in editing and update timing of events.
