An amazing product for underground travel. Had it printed at staples and it pairs quite well with the product "Veins of the Earth". Both explain cultures, travel, cave generation and go over the more silent killers in underground exploration besides the creatues that lurk in the dark.

The Dungeoneer's Survival Guide is still quite useful, having tons of material about adventuring in the underdark, including rules of thumb and ideas about what to include in underground adventures that are still quite applicable. It also has some good tips on running games and mapping in 3 dimensions, although this information is also done in the 2nd edition Campaign Sourcebook and Catacomb Guide. However, the books are different enough that I'm glad to have both. The bookmarks are extremely good, although the scan itself seems a bit fuzzy.

Are you wondering what features exist in caves, or how to explain why a cave looks the way it does? Could you use rules for how much oxygen creatures or fire consume? How about some mining guidelines, or how underdark races may have a different culture due to the lack of day and season differentiation? Then this book can still be a big help.

LIKED: Lots of really good information, excellent bookmarks.

DISLIKED: A bit blurry, and I'm not sure there's a good reason why -- it's all black and white with good contrast, except the covers.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
