This has been the inspiration for multiple fun elemental builds since I got it, but I wanted to get this clarified in regards to the sorcerer metamagics. The ones that allow you to apply a condition to all targets affected, is the intent that a target would count if they succeeded on the save but took half damage? Or are only those who received the full brunt of a spell considered affected targets?

Regardless, thanks for the endless inspiration this book has offered.

Hello Hunter,

We are very glad you are enjoying the book so much!

Regarding the metamagic options that apply conditions to specific damaging spells, such as Chilling or Gleaming spell, all targets who suffer negative effects (such as damage) as a consequence of the spell count as the affected targets. So the targets would be affected regardless of save if the spell deals damage to them, but would not be affected if the spell missed and they take no damage.

This is balanced by the effects being relatively minor additions and requiring limited resources for each target affected.

Hope that this clears things out. Keep on making great stories!

Kind regards,
The Eren Chronicles

Love this book and all the books in the Series Actually. I have a Character though that is Playing the Blackguard and just reached level 3 so he has Hand of Decay now,. The way that it is worded I would like some clarification on.

You can use an action to draw power from your
pool and make a melee spell attack against another
creature. If the attack is successful, the creature
takes necrotic damage equal to twice your paladin
level. In addition, you regain hit points equal to your
paladin level, and the amount remaining in your pool
becomes reduced accordingly.

Does this mean that it is for every point spent so say 1pt would be 6 damage and 3 healing at third level, if it hits and then it scales as such for each point.

So say that a 6th level Blackguard Paladin who has 30 HP in his Pool could then spend all 30 in one shot on an attack to do in effect 360 points of damage in one hit if successful and heal himself for 180 HP?

Hello Ralph,

Thank you for your kind words and for including our book in your stories!

The Hand of Decay is intended to work as a necrotic version of the Paladin's Lay on Hands feature.
A level 6 paladin has a pool of 30 hit points.

Using their hand of decay they would deal 12 damage (twice their level) and regain 6 hit points (half the damage dealt). Then they would reduce their Lay on Hand pool by 6 (the amount regained).

In essence, this gives the blackguard a thematic attack that might be better in the long run, but cannot be used to perform an extraordinary burst of healing. The blackguard does not choose how many points to spend from their pool, they always spend the specific amount stated.

We hope you find this new style of play for the paladin to your liking!

Thank you so much for the Response, and I can't wait to have my Blackguard show off his powers and shock the rest of the Party.

Loving the book so far, but couldn’t help but notice that the 9th-level Spellthief feature grants the Rogue Sneak Attack on damage dealt by spells only if they require a spell attack rolls; but the Magic Schools that can be picked from have no spells requiring attack rolls to deal damage, apart from Shadowblade, if I’m not mistaken.

Hello Cesare,

We are very glad you are enjoying the book so far! You make a very valid point in your observation. By design, Evocation should be included in the list of available schools for picking spells. As it stands, it is an accidental omission from the text in the Spellcasting feature. Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention, and be assured that it will be fixed in future updates!

Cheers,
The Eren Chronicles

Thank you for the reply! Also I'd like if you clarified something else concerning the Spellthief: the Spellsteal feature says that a creature with available spell slots, when hit by the sneak attack, will lose its highest spell slot up to a level equal to the sneak attack dice, but I don't really understand what it means. Is it up to the number of d6 rolled for sneak attack?

I no longer play tabletop these days but I'd be much interested in a Fantasy Grounds conversion. Is there any chance of that happening?

Hello Graham,

We do hope to see a POD option for all of our titles at some point in the near future! Unfortunately, we've encountered a lot of issues with the submission process of our other titles in the past, so this time we want to take our time and make sure that we have done everything right.

So, fingers crossed! :)

Kind regards,
Nicos

Hi, it looks like the Spellsword's Arcane Pool doesn't tell you when you get charges back. Unless I'm just blind xD

Hi Fabian,

You most certainly aren't, thanks for bringing the issue to our attention! The feature should note that ''you regain all expended charges upon finishing a long rest''. We will soon upload a corrected version of the book to fix this oversight.

Cheers,
Nicos

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
