The Goblin Bathwater Incident

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Experience this 30-hour Tier 1 adventure about small-town politics, the ethics of immigration, and the end of the world as we know it.

Synopsis:

Goblin Bathwater, a magical drug, has taken hold in a sleepy coastal town at the edge of the Empire. As the characters investigate the origin of the drug, they uncover an international criminal conspiracy, wild and ancient magic, and a threat to reality itself.

Contents:

This beautifully made, 54-page adventure offers:

  • A fully fleshed out, setting-agnostic starter area, brimming with colourful NPCs and hooks for adventure.

  • Balanced encounters to bring characters to level 2; then some more devious encounters on their way to level 3.

  • Three mini-dungeons built on the design philosophy of the "5 room dungeon method", each illustrated with isometric and top-down combat maps

  • Multiple big, cinematic set-piece boss encounters that will make your players feel epic.

  • A faceted intrigue, which does not immediately suggest a simple, ready-made solution but invites the players to come up with their own, personal approach.

Why pick this adventure?

Two simple reasons:

Depth: The Goblin Bathwater Incident is different from many of the 1st tier adventures in that it pits the characters against traps and monsters, but also asks difficult, open-ended ethical questions, where a simple strategy of "apply sword to head of bad guy" will not cut it.

Length: I created The Goblin Bathwater Incident as the ideal adventure for in-between your big modules, but it isn't a simple little adventure. With a playtime of about 30 hours, it still manages to hit that sweet-spot where it establishes context, makes you grow fond of NPCs, and makes those big bossfight wins so much sweeter. All without taking more than a few sessions.

About the author

Hey, my name is Marius. I'm a husband, a gamer and a huge D&D nerd. This is my first time publishing on the DMs Guild but I wouldn't call myself a newcomer. I started playing Pathfinder 1e back in 2014.  We have run many, many modules and adventures in many game systems since. Currently I play three games a week. When Covid hit, like many others, I was stuck in lockdown. This is when the TGBWI-project really took form. I chose to write down my little homebrew ideas a bit more neatly than usual ... and over the span of almost a year, I expanded my notes into the final product that you're seeing now. Hopefully, many more adventures will follow.

Is there supposed to be a map for the jail on pages 12-14? I looked through the maps rar and the PDF itself and couldn't find anything.

There isn't. I chose to only add maps for the three proper dungeons in the pdf, the ones where grid/token combat is very likely.

I've thrown together a quick sketch of what the jail could look like for you, just because I know the layout can be a bit confusing: https://imgur.com/a/ZpQ8pDM

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
