A Full Guide and Expansion to Death House!

Fleshing Out Curse of Strahd is a series of expansions and elaborations to the core Curse of Strahd campaign. The full series is a DM tool that adds depth to various NPCs, streamlines confusing plot lines, fills in plot holes, and alleviates some of the stress associated with TPK inducing encounters throughout the campaign.

Within Chapter 2: Death House, you'll find the following:

  • Adventure Overview & Flow. A rewrite of Death House's background that refocuses the adventure on narrative rather than dungeon crawling.
  • Quick Reference Tables. Handy charts listing notable NPCs and all the loot within Death House.
  • NPC Expansions. How do you get players to trust Rose and Thorn? How might you turn the nursemaid encounter in an RP event?
  • Added Letters & Handouts. Extra letters for players to discover!
  • Battle Advice. What's the best way to approach the many battles in Death House?
  • Walter the Flesh Mound. An alternate final battle that both locates the missing baby and completely rewrites the statblock.

Like what you see? Keep up with the whole Fleshing Out series!

Are these the same as the reddit posts / forum posts, or is this different?

What are these PF versions? Just a condensed format?

PF stands for printer friendly. So no colorful backgrounds and stuff that looks good, but kills your printer ink.

I am getting ready to run this for a new group with 2 returning players. I love that so much will be different for them compared to the previous run. Thanks for writing all of this!

Question about the Flesh Mound. Previously it had an engulf mechanic. That sounded interesting, but was there a gameplay reason it was removed and replaced with the Cult's Depravity?

I so look forward to future chapters of the Fleshing Out series, and will be using them all in planning for my future CoS campaign.

This is a great addition and I really hope there will be more to the series - it is very worthwhile.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
