Knucklehead_Ad_1.png

This is a supplementary material of options catered to the Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frost Maiden adventure to be used alongside the official books from Wizards of the Coast. It also includes a subclass inspired by the setting for Benjamin Huffman’s adamantium best-selling Pugilist Class, his first official expansion on the class since its release.

ch_1.png

The following new lore-faithful subclasses appear in this book:

  • Artificer Specialist - Rune Shaper
  • Barbarian Primal Path - Thunderbeast
  • Bard College - Hospitality
  • Cleric Divine Domain - Travel
  • Druid Circle - Circle of the Jotun
  • Fighter Martial Archetype - Runic Warrior
  • Paladin Sacred Oath - Sacrifice
  • Pugilist Fight Club - Knucklehead Knocks
  • Ranger Archetype - Trailblazer
  • Roguish Archetype - Relic Seeker
  • Sorcerous Origin - Frozen Heart
  • Warlock Otherworldly Patron - The Frost Maiden
  • Wizard Arcane Tradition - Diabolism

ch_2.png

The verbeeg race has long been associated with Frozenfar and thus, wouldn’t feel quite right to have omitted from this book. There is also an alternative list of traits to create firbolgs of Frozenfar, which have notable distinctions from the firbolgs of the southern regions of the Forgotten Realms.

In addition to the standard race traits, this supplement also lists mechanics for creating verbeeg characters using the rules presented in Eugene Marshall’s “Ancestry & Culture”.

ch_3.png

Drawing inspiration from runecasting in previous editions, Runic Invocation is a new optional mechanic designed to introduce this element of the Forgotten Realms to fifth edition. The Rune Shaper, Circle of the Ordning, and Runic Warrior all rely on this system, so they will be unavailable to tables that opt not to use Runic Invocation.

ch_5.png

New items have been added to this supplement with mechanics to surely help adventurers out during their journey, such as fisher's supplies, engraving tools, and various flora and fungi that can help adventurers overcome some of the harshest issues of the wilderness.

There is also a set of Appendices that delve into the lore of the region, the famous Barbarian tribes of the North, a deep dive into each of the Ten Towns, maps of the Frozenfar and Icewind Dale, as well as a timeline of the history of Frozenfar.

Additionally, several rules that are sure to come up for players in Frozenfar but don’t appear in the Player’s Handbook (such as the rules for extreme cold) are presented within in accordance with the Community Content Agreement for Dungeon Masters Guild products. It also includes an extensive list of the more notable flora and fungi that one might find in the region.

Silly question, but I'm just wondering why the file went from 41.3MB to 139.6MB when it was updated. Was a much higher resolution of the art added?

Yes, actually. The original was exported at 144ppi and the new one was exported at 300ppi, which had the side effect of tripling the file size.

Any chance of posting a Printer Friendly version, or one with lower resolution as an alternative?

Just wanted to check: for the adventuring gear, is there supposed to be descriptions for the Scrimshaw Carving and Tents?

The tents are described in the Adventuring Gear section. Scrimshaw carvings are basically miscellaneous treasure/trinkets.

Two quick notes:
1. The Rune Shaper's and Circle of Ordning's Runic Invocation feature say it knows 2 runes but their table says they knows 3 runes at level 3 and 2 respectively. Which is correct?
2. It seems on page 45 under services there are a few costs missing.

I just noticed those on my first quick read.

Ah thank you for the catch! The services are hang overs from something that didn't quite make it to the final book. Updating right now!

What about the Runic Invocation of the 2 subclasses? Do they know 2 or 3 at the beginning?

Also I was surprised on the 2 dwarf art pieces shown. I have a miniature that looks almost exactly like it (look up "Mantic Stone Priest", it even has runes on its skin). Might get mine painted up to use and run the skin runes as counting as medium armor (I bought the mini ages ago because a dwarf running around shirtless with a hammer is badass).

Another few things I've noticed:
1. On pages 22 and 23, the all but one of the Warlock subclass features have a subtitle that it is from the Frost Maiden patron. From the streams you've done I know that was the old Patron name of the Subclass but now it is called Aspect of Winter. Might want to name everything one or the other for consistency.

2. On pages 24 and 25, the subclass is called Diabolism but all features have subtitle of Diabolist. Like before, might be best to call one or the other though on this case it is a very minor difference.

Sorry for the minor notes, not trying to be an editor or anything.

I was rereading the Rune magic chapter and I noticed some runes have no Rune sigil beside them, was that by choice? Does the sigil correspond with the Rune besides it or is it just a formatting aesthetic choice?

There isn't official typography for Giant as an alphabet for the missing words. The ones that appear are redraws of officially-released sigils from Storm King's Thunder.

I just noticed that on page 22 table of features of the Aspect of Winter and on page 23, there is a mention of a Hard Freeze feature. My guess it was the previous name of Winters XXX. (Edit: Bi te is being filtered, weird)

Sorry for the piecemeal notes. If I see any I'll try to wait if I see multiple before posting.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
