D&D Solo Adventure: Labyrinth of Lies

5e Solo Gamebooks presents Adventurer's Wanted: Labyrinth of Lies.

This 42-page pdf is a short, deadly solo (DM-less) quest for a single Level 5 PC, or two Level 3 PCs. The emphasis here is replayability. There are several routes through this quest, and if you survive this dungeon on the first attempt, it will be nothing short of miraculous.

The mayor of Ilinvur hires you to explore the caverns beneath the town. Svirfneblin have been seen about Ilinvur, terrorising the locals and making proclamations of apocalypse. Mayor Charrus begs you to venture to the subterranean Svirfneblin village and discover the source of these troubles.

Unlike our longer solo adventures such as The Tortured Land, this solo quest should take you about 2 hours to complete, longer if you factor in character creation and some equipment buying in Ilinvur (where you start the quest) which you can solo yourself (you are gifted gp at the very beginning).

In reality, this adventure will take probably take you at least three play-throughs to defeat. The emphasis here is on challenge. This adventure is written in the spirit of adventures like Tomb of Horrors, with a very steep difficulty curve, so be prepared to reroll stats a few times as your hapless PCs succumb to the perils of the Labyrinth of Lies!

As with all our solo adventures, navigation within the pdf is managed through hyperlinked entries, so you do not need to scroll between entries. If you like this style of solo adventure please check out our other products, linked below.

The adventure itself was pretty fun. I've only run it once and it went pretty quickly, but maybe I just chose a lucky path. The one thing that threw me is that there was no discussion of experience either in the introduction or the ending. The monsters have XP listed, so you could just award yourself that. However, customarily a DM running a game would also award you XP for finishing a story, and maybe for smart moves along the way, or whatever.

Ok, it's a solo adventure so award yourself whatever you want. But to me this was a glaring oversight that I wish the author had discussed.

The only other puzzling thing I ran into were the goggles given at the beginning. I assumed they were "Goggles of Night" just as Tyler E did below. They fit the description, and I was very pleased that even with my character's darkvision they still were an enhancement.

Hello, I have played through the first solo adventure bundle and picked up the short bundle in anticipation for bundle 2. Awesome work so far! I just started this adventure "Labyrinth of Lies" and am wondering if I am correct in believing that the Mayor gives you "Goggles of Night" at the start of the adventure?

hi, I just bought this adventure. I know it would be for max 2 players, but we are in 3. How do we adapt the levels of our characters?

3 Level 1 Characters should give you a decent challenge. 3 Level 2 PCs would be too easy (not as the game was intended!)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
