Grazilaxx’s Guide to Ancestry provides a new and innovative way to use “race” in your 5e games. No longer do you need to settle for the restrictive language of race and tethered ability score increases!

This product comes with a "minimalist" BR-PT version attached. If you would like just that version for about 1/3 the price, please go here.

This product provides the following:

  • Removes inflexible Race restrictions, instead giving characters a customizable, modular Ancestry.

  • Removes ability score increases from Ancestry/Race, with options to place them using Modified Distribution, Backgrounds, Classes, or Feats.

  • Rebalances all ancestries with a Point Buy system (inheritances) for features.

  • Provides easy mechanics for half-races.

  • Provides all features for ancestries from the Player’s Handbook, Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes, Elemental Evil, Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide, Volo’s Guide to Monsters, Eberron (including Dragonmarks), Ravnica, and Tortle.

Check out these Expansions!

I have a feeling that the race cannot be customized as well as with "Customized and Randomized Races and Randomized Spells", despite the good presentation.
I give an example to my dear dwarves:
No weapon competition option? If they put on heavy armor, do they move 20? Some dwarves have +2, +2. Is there a special rule or is it assumed that all races have 3 points?

Hi Juan,

Good question! I did not make this to fit with that particular supplement, as I was not aware of its existence. That said, it could likely be compatible with a bit of tweaking.

The Rule as Written is that each race has 4 points, but I fully encourage DM's to modulate that up or down based on the level of power they want in their games.

This product now has a minimalist BR-PT translation. You can buy the english product with the translation attached, or you can buy the translation itself (for about 1/3 the price) here: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/335523/O-Guia-de-Ancestralidades-de-Grazilaxx

Am I understanding this right?

"Inheritance Points. For the most part, each ancestry has six inheritance points they can spend. Major inheritances are worth two points each, minor inheritances are one point each."

This says 6 inheritance points, but then on the next page...

"You can easily make your own race, or modify an existing race using this system, by following these steps:
1) Convert the two most powerful racial traits into
major inheritances (2 points, each).
2) Convert the rest of the racial traits into minor
inheritances (1 point, each).
3) Provide at least 2 skills and 1 tool or instrument
that the character could be proficient in (1 point, each)."

This makes it seem like there should be at least 8 points (4+1 or more+3) and then immediately after that it says...

"In general, races should have two major inheritances and one feat option, and two minor inheritance...See more

Thanks for the question. The idea is that you have more options than you can invest points in, allowing multiple different versions of the same ancestry. If you only have enough options to fill 6 points without having anything you gave, then you don't really have options.

I am in the process of converting this into BR-PT. The option will be available as either a free PDF on the original product here, or as a cheaper separate product.. both will be "printer friendly" versions.

Hi! I am a 21 year old Brazilian player named Thiago. My ancestry is a mixture of Italian and indígena. Because of that, I never fit into this idea of "race" that d & d brought. Its content is wonderful and the people of my country need to see more of it! Thanks for everything and congratulations, really.

Hi Heitor. I'm currently trying to come up with the funds to translate this into BR-PT. I want to be able to pay the translator fairly, so I either need to make it a separate product for Brazillians to buy, or pay an expensive flat rate.

So you don't have to pay for the product price, I'm opting to just pay a translator. It's going to be worth the wait once I can get the money. Thanks for your interest and love of the product!

hi there! first of all, i absolutely love this product. im so stoked that the weirdness of races is being phased out by the community, and it makes things so much more flexible.

however, i was wondering if there was any possibility to have examples of characters made with these methods? like a step-by-step process similar to the character creation process included in the Player's Handbook? i know for me, i have certain disabilities that make it hard to comprehend things without step by step processes, and i know many others do as well.

thank you so much for this content, i look forward to being able to use this in my next game!!

My name is luciano i am a black man. I love rpg, but I've always been bothered by how D&D builds some scenarios and characters. When I saw Grazilaxx, I found something that made me happy and that I identified with. I very much hope that this material will be translated into Portuguese. It would be cool instead for different people to know this material.

Congratulations.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
