Symbols to Represent  the 8 Schools of Magic

The 8 magic traditions are part of the Dungeons & Dragons experience since the publishing of the original Dragonlance campaign setting. 33 years have passed since then, and yet, there are no official symbols or runes to visually represent the Schools of Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Illusion, Necromancy, and Transmutation. If you think, that it's about time to fix this, and start using nicely designed symbols for handouts at your gaming table, or for your publications, check out this PDF (including a free-to-use Open Type font). The eight magic runes are inspired by historical alchemical signs, and come with interpretations of their symbolisms, ready for being integrated in your D&D game, regardless of the setting.

EDIT: It was brought to my attention, that there ARE some classic symbols for the 8 schools of magic. Starting with version 1.2 there are now 2 font typefaces included in the download. One with the new coherent symbols and one with the re-designed classic signs. In addition I added two pages to the PDF, including a detailed comparison between the two sets of symbols. Enjoy!

Beautiful font! I love the meaning you embedded in each symbol. I'm tracing and editing the glyphs for my campaign's graphic style (little smoother, more Roman-numeral-esque). I'd be happy to send over my "fanart" version if you're interested :)

Just fixed the preview of the PDF. I am still quite new to digital publishing, so I hope you can forgive my newbie mistakes. Thanks to the help of Meredith Gerber (DMs Guild), it should work now, and show previews of all 8 symbol pages.
My thanks go to Roman B. as well, for creating the first review of this product. I hope you enjoy it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
