“I think the strongest part of this module is how in depth it goes into the lore for each section. Every group involved has their own detailed motivations and information that players can sink their teeth into and explore, especially for groups that focus on roleplay. In addition, it comes with a few great looking maps and some interesting stat blocks. I am particularly fond of the Crushing Hug from the Hag Grandmother. Overall, looks to be a solid, well-written product for anyone looking to extract a bit more out of the Tyranny of Dragons campaign.” -Steven Williams (Nerzugal Gaming)

“There’s a lot of ambition in this adventure. [...] There’s enough here to make it intriguing.” -Merric Blackman

Three questions:

1. There's 2 rings of Myrkul on dead cultists under the tower...somewhere? I guess in the rooms with Ebondeath? Maybe I'm blind but I don't see them anywhere.

2. The rings can be grabbed/attacked during the ritual the lich starts. Is the lich wearing them? The description seems to imply they are on the top of bone towers that are connected to the lich by lightning? I guess?

3. The description of who the bbeg is in the Appendix only?

Sorry if I'm missing the obvious. Just got really confused reading this....

Hi. My players are just finishing up Xonthal's Tower and I purchased this to run as an additional chapter since I skipped the Metallic Dragons chapter. I am looking forward to running this additional content with them. I echo Brian's comment about including maps for VTT. We use Roll20 and having some map images that I could just load up and use would be much appreciated. I'm not actually sure yet how we are going to run the two maps (Mausoleum and Dragon's Lair) without maps, but I will have to figure something out. I'll probably just use the Castle Naerytar Dungeon map as the Dragon's Lair and find a map somewhere and adjust the Mausoleum to fit the map I can find. Creating maps myself isn't high on my list; I'd much rather have the maps already included. Even if it was an optional, additional charge for maps for the module.

I had a color version of the dragons' lair map commission in DungeonDraft that you can find for free here: https://www.reddit.com/r/dungeondraft/comments/qfg5ak/black_dragons_lair_from_ghost_of_the_mere/

I also used this for the exterior of the Uthtower:

And these for Ebondeath's Mausoleum:

Like most add-on maps, I'm struggling with the Mausoleum getting the grid in Roll20 to line up with the map squares. The map is gorgeous, but adding new maps to roll20 always seems so much harder than it should be or needs to be.

The Mausoleum was reused in Beyond Icespire Peak part 3 Divine Contention: it was free at some some point on Roll20 and so I able to reuse it nicely for this adventure. I just had to change Ebondeath's stats and remove some NPCs (Divine Contention is quite different as an adventure than Ghost of the Mere), but everything else was on the map was fine.

Hi Taylor. Great adventure. I'm getting ready to add this to my party's run through Rise of Tiamat, and was wondering if you still had those drafts available, or better yet know of any VTT maps (preferably Roll20)?

Also, my party already encountered Voaraghamanthar during Hoard of the Dragon Queen, following this additional quest line suggested by Sly Flourish:
https://slyflourish.com/hodq_chapter_6.html

They recovered the Dark Sermons of Strongor Bonebinder and a Ring of Myrkul from Castle Naerytar (which one of them wears!) but never returned the items to Voaraghamanthar. Any suggestions of how that might impact the story as I integrate it into our campaign would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Brian!

I apologize that I didn't see this come up in my notifications until now, so I'm somewhat tardy in my reply.

Regarding the maps, I wrote this adventure before becoming familiar with VTT and didn't make any versions that could be easily adapted to such software. I have the original drafts that I hand drew on plain white paper and then coloured using filters within the document itself. I haven't added them to this title because they have the DM labels on them, which makes them less appealing to use as player handouts, and I had assumed that DMs would simply do as I always did with maps: re-draw them out on a battle mat.

Mapmaking for adventures was a learning experience, and I know for future titles to provide player versions of maps that DMs can use on VTTs.

Regarding running this adventure along with quest lines suggested by Sly Flourish, this was actually the first time I'd ever seen that article; I didn't write the adventure to be compatible...See more

See above, that Mausoleum was reused in Divine Contention from Beyond the Dragon of Icespire Peak and available on Roll20 in the Essentials kit.

Hey there, Just wondering if you have a VTT version of the maps here that don't have the numbers on them? Like a player version?

Hi Jesse!

I have the original hand-drawn drafts of the maps, but they aren't done up nicely with colours and textures. I'm afraid there aren't unlabelled colour maps.

Let me know if you would like the drafts.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
