D&D Solo Adventure: Tables of Doom - 5e Solo Adventuring (Fantasy Grounds)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This is a Fantasy Grounds VTT Module!  It makes extensive use of Fantasy Grounds's random table features, and comes complete with encounters, items, NPCs, and custom tokens.  For the PDF version instead, click here.

5e Solo Gamebooks presents Tables Of Doom, a new kind of solo adventuring system, containing 2 exciting solo quests! Unlike our previously published gamebooks (Death Knight’s Squire and Tyrant of Zhentil Keep), this system relies on dice rolls and tables (hence the name) to randomly generate monsters, traps, clues, encounters, secret doors, loot… all the good stuff. The final Big Bad Evil Guy encounter (and some of the other encounters) are managed through gamebook style entries, but everything else (rooms, monsters, traps, secret doors, loot, etc., etc.) is randomly generated, meaning that even if you play the same quest multiple times, every attempt will result in a different quest. Tables Of Doom is the first in a planned series of adventures using this system.

Tables Of Doom contains two short solo quests: “Shadows Gather”, and “Brain Dead.” The quests are designed to be relatively short, 2 hours max for each, and both take place on the Dragon Coast of Faerun. They could be played after “Death Knight’s Squire” or before “Tyrant of Zhentil Keep,” or as stand-alones. DMs could use these quests to give their players something to do between sessions, or to level up prior to a session. We've been told that our solo adventures have also been used to playtest homebrew classes.

PRAISE FOR 5E SOLO GAMEBOOKS' PRODUCTS

"This was hands down the best no-DM adventure I have seen." Arch G.

"Very unique module and well worth the price for me." Allen D.

The adventures in "Tables Of Doom" are designed for Level 2 characters, with the next volume aimed at Level 4 (our gamebooks “Tyrant of Zhentil Keep” and “Citadel of the Raven” [due April 2018] have level 3 covered). We’ve received a lot of requests for higher-level adventures, but the eventual plan is to work our way up to them, providing a linear progression from level 2 to level 20.

So if you are ready for a new type of solo adventure where nothing is certain and death is just around the corner, pick up “Tables Of Doom” right now!

Hi Donald, I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun translating it into Fantasy Grounds, but I'm sorry to say there is not a sequel, as of yet. The author, Paul Bimler, has many other works available here for the solo player, but to my knowledge he has not yet expanded on the Tables of Doom random system.

How do you actually load this into FG? (I'm new to FG).

Thanks!

After you start Fantasy Grounds, in the upper right corner, directly underneath the X button, is a button that looks like a single folder. Mousing over it should say "Open data folder." Click that, and then click into the "modules" subfolder, and install your Tables of Doom data file in there, and close up the windows.
Then select the "Load Campaign" button on the main Fantasy Grounds screen, and you should see the module in your selection window. Select it to load.

After it loads, to get started playing, you'll want to select the Story button on the right hand side of the interface. In the window that appears, click on the first entry, "01 - Cover and Credits" and then go from there. There will be a little arrow at the bottom of the windows that will take you to the next one in order automatically. The first windows in sequence are the instructions, and then later on you'll get windows that begin the actual gameplay.

So I followed these instructions but I still can't get it to work. I put the download into the modules folder but it does not show up under "Load Campaign" What am I doing wrong?

Probably nothing wrong, Joel. My earlier instructions assumed that a campaign was already created. If you don't see it under Load Campaign, it's because you haven't made a blank campaign for it yet.

So on the main screen for FG, click on Create New Campaign. Fill in a name in the Name field, and click the 5e ruleset in the left-hand window, then click on the Start button.

When the campaign opens on the next screen, you will see a Campaign Setup window already open for you. Click on the Next button in the bottom right, and the window will show the Data Module options. Click on the Modules button in the center of the window.

You will then see the list of possible modules to load. If you put the Tables of Doom module in the modules folder in the data directory as in my previous directions, then you should see it in this window. Click on the Load button to load it. Then you can close this window and the campaign setup window which will still be open underneath it....See more

Like Dark Knights Squire, is this also playable on the demo version of fantasy grounds?

Yes, it should be. The demo license limits your connections to other players and as a DM, but not your "offline" capabilities.

You should maybe put 'Fantasy Grounds Version' in the name of the product. I was like, isn't this already published? :D

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
