Hi Dave, these look great! I'm keen to play them (outside AL) as a mini campaign. I know it says the first 3 can be played in any order, but looking back now, is there an order you'd suggest?

I'm looking for a series of linked 2 hour adventures to give a group of three eight or nine year olds plus their parents (so three children, three adults) their first experience of D&D. My first inclination was to run the Dragon of Icespire Peak (the adventure from the D&D Essentials starter kit) for them, but I'm hesitant as Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake and Divine Contention dont appear to be D&DAL Legal.

Would you say CCC-WWC-01to CCC-WWC-08 were suitable to run as a series of linked adventures for a group of very young players?

Ideally I'm looking for a series with simple objectives, a fair bit of combat, simple puzzles and clear black and white morality. Will this series work?

The first three adventures in the series contain puzzles, but for the most part, the remaining ones do not. As far as being appropriate for young children, that is difficult to say. Kids mature at different rates, but any content that might be too harsh could easily be removed or glossed over.

The bigger issue may be difficulty. All of the adventures were written to challenge AL players. If you are running them for new players, I would scale back the difficulty using the encounter adjustment sidebars in each adventure.

Sounds like they're worth checking out at least. I'll pick up the first four, since from the sounds of it they form a tight mini-arc. Then I can read them, make a judgement, and either run them or the Dragon of Icespire Peak.

If I don't run them now, I'm sure I'll get to run them for adults some time in the future, so its a safe purchase. And if I do run them, and they go down well I'll be back for the second Arc.

Thank you.

Just a quick update. CCC-WWC-01 was brilliant and proved perfect for three 9 year olds and 1 adults on their first game (the other two parents chose not to play). They started to switch off during the intro not really caring why they were going on a quest, but parts 2 to 4 had them enthralled. The puzzle proved a little difficult for the 9 year olds and the we had to hint quite heavily and were just about to give up and just have the adults player solve it when one of the kids got lucky.
I was concerned about the difficulty - four 1st level characters is at the bottom end of very weak. As it turned out they had almost no difficulty at all, possibly because they had two capable healers. The nine year olds used clever tactics in the fights (particularly part 3) and separated off groups of enemies isolating them.
Keeping this spoiler free, the one danger point was the final encounter (chapter 4) where the enemy opened the fight by dropping the barbarian to within 2 points of a massive damage death. Not...See more

A wonderful start to a great series. Great for Adventure's League. I've ran this with several first time players (with a few significant tweaks to make the thingamajig goober obtaining more challenging) and they loved it.

Just ran this yesterday. Lots of fun. Easy to run too! Minimal prep time, and everyone had a blast. I would leave a detailed review, if I could, but I'm technically a "publisher" by OBS standards.

Short version is this... It was an excellent adventure and fit the time just right. I especially liked the xvart encounter, as it was full of a lot of possibilities. Tempted to say that the goblin encounter is a bit weak, since it can be evaded, and it feels like a day's worth of time can be obviated. I ended up putting in an alternate encounter to make up for the players skipping the goblin one.

But seriously, a great AL adventure. First one ever for me, and it was lots of fun!

Hey Dave,

I really enjoyed this a lot. Both played and DMed. I like to play on Fantasy Grounds as well and so I went ahead input everything into an FG module. If you'd like, I'd be more than happy to provide it to you so you can include it with the purchase for other players.

Ran this at a recent Con and it went smoothly. The players really enjoyed adventure. Good balance of fighting and fun role-playing.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
