A harrowing dungeon crawl for characters levels 6-8

The heroes have been captured by Alaethyria, a blue dragon caught in a centuries-old war with a mummy lord. With Alaethyria at their backs, the heroes must put the mummy to rest and escape the Tomb of the Defiler in this classic dungeon crawl for characters level 6 to 8.

What's Inside:

  • A single session dungeon crawl with unique puzzles and roleplaying opportunities.
  • Two original monsters.
  • A powerful unique magic item.
  • Detailed combat tactics and roleplaying hints for novice and experienced DMs alike.
  • An easily referenced map of the tomb drafted in a classic D&D style.
  • Choose from either a Full version with professional page layout and artwork or a Lite version for easy printing.

About the Author: My first memory of Dungeons & Dragons is picking up my brother's 2nd edition Monstrous Manual and looking at the pictures before I could read. I have been playing roleplaying games for over 13 years and am eager to share my adventures with you.

My DMing style seeks to provide real (often deadly) challenges for players. I feel this makes an adventure truly rewarding and leaves your players feeling like heroes. If we, as DMs, can achieve that then we have "won" Dungeons & Dragons. This adventure is hard. Your players will be challenged. At the end of the day, they will remember that time they barely escaped the Tomb of the Defiler.

When I download the Full version, there isn't a cover page at all. Is this an issue with that file or should I be doing something differently?

Hello, Nicholas!

Firstly, thank you for your interest in my work. Your support means a lot and is what keeps us independent writers doing what we do.

Not including the cover in the PDF was a deliberate choice to reduce the size of the file. If you like it, please email me at christophernwalz at gmail dot com.

Thanks again and I hope you have fun uncovering the Tomb of the Defiler!

Hello, everyone! Thank you for your interest in Rising Sands.

I will be releasing a fully designed version of the adventure in the coming days. For an example of what that may look like, see the Full version of The Midnight Revelry.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
