The Mourning Lord

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Tell the greatest story no one ever told...

A tantalizing tale; in which a bold group of heroes braves the depths of Fort Morninglord, a long forgotten ruin. Therein, their mettle is tested by cruelty, suffering, and no small-measure of mischief. Will their courage -and their stomachs- hold steady? Will they banish the wicked presence that holds dominion here? Can they end the misery of Fort Morninglord's Mourning Lord?

Let's find out!

The Mourning Lord is a D&D 5e adventure intended for players of 13th-15th level. There are options to significantly scale the difficulty up or down for higher or lower level PC's.

The players begin by defending an outpost called Omenhale from an army of the undead! Omenhale is situated just outside Ft. Morninglord, a fortress that was sealed up decades ago to seal in the evil that once tainted it. Omenhale is populated by the Dawnwatchers, an elite force of soldiers tasked with standing ready should the fort become active once again.

After defending the outpost, the players delve the tainted depths of Fort Morninglord to find the cause of its corruption. This leads them into terrifying peril and certain doom at the hands of the fort's denizens. Specters, Wraiths, Mummies, Revenants, Death Knights, The Mourning Lord himself and more await them inside! Along with plenty of mind-bending, gut wrenching obstacles that are sure to keep the heroes on their toes!

This module contains twelve pregenerated characters. Players may choose to bring their own characters, or use one of the Dawnwatchers. There are two new magic items awarded during the course of this module. One of these is The Crown of Fort Morninglord, which conveys ownership of the fort to the wearer, giving them the opportunity to use the fort as their personal stronghold!

I'm looking for the adventure "Guts, Gods, & Glory In That Order" by the same author, but all the links I find online lead to dead ends. Is that adventure no longer available?

Hi Tim!

I took down Guts, Gods, & Glory some time ago. I had a great time making it, but it was my first piece. It needs some reworking, which I haven't had time to do. That said, you aren't the first to mention it. I'll set it to active again.

Thank you for reaching out, and I hope you enjoy. :)

The appendix of monsters seems to be missing an entry for 'Death Knight' to be used as a stat block for Sir Michael Scott.

Is there a suggestion on what amount of gold or magic items the players should start with for this adventure? The module mentions certain magic items for sale, but I'm not sure what would be a good starting suggestion for gold so they can buy some of those items.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
