“Samilla you have changed so much!” - Pyro, in the face of a demon

Avaluable trinket was stolen from the well-protected manor of Lady Morrigan Strange, and she enlists the help of some able-bodied adventurers to retrieve it. As is the way of things, it turns out the problem is not as simple as it first seemed: The orb is nothing more than a cage that holds a vile demon.

Space

The Cage is a one-shot adventure for Tier 1 or 2 parties. Since there’s only one planned fight at the end of the story, which may even be circumvented, it’s exceptionally easy to scale this adventure. Therefore, the focus lies almost exclusively on roleplaying and exploration.

The story is set in a town called Beregost. It is situated just south of Baldur’s Gate and lies along the Coast Way that meanders up and down the Sword Coast. This story can be incorporated into any campaign with only minor adjustments. The mansion and the ruins where most of the action takes place can be situated virtually anywhere, either within the Forgotten Realms or any other setting. The Cage may also serve as an opening for an incursion into the Feywild since the characters will eventually encounter a satyr who only recently entered the Material Plane.

Would this be easy to re-skin for a Waterdeep adventure? (basically just change some names and city locations, and use waterdeep lore and waterdeep maps?)

Yeah, that'd work just fine. The final location (ruined temple) could be outside of Waterdeep or in Undermountain (or just very old parts of the sewers).

For some reason I am unable to see the preview so I am going to ask here. The exploration going to be things like puzzles and ability checks right?

Considering getting this for a party of 5-6 Level 2 characters. I like the fact that it scales by being exploration/roleplaying focused, and that there's only one combat, which can be avoided. But if a party of that makeup does end up fighting at the end, are they being set up for a TPK?

Hey Adam!

Not at all. I included a table with possible monsters for the fight in the end. A party of this size and level should easily handle a CR 4 demon like a babau. If you want to make it a bit easier, just use a hell hound. Have fun! :)

Hi, maybe it's just me, but I am having trouble where to find the meaning of S, G, I on the Strange Mansion maps and the I on the ruin map. Could you please help me understand what they are?

Hi! G is the position of a guard in the mansion, S is the position of a secret door, and the I is simply a 1 with an unfortunate font choice. It's explained somewhere in the text but next time I should put the explanation directly on the map I guess. Have fun! :D

For some reason when I download the maps, they come up blank. I had the same issue with the maps in Ravenhome.

Greetings, I just checked and there is no problem with the files attached. I assume that there may be a problem with your image viewer. The maps in question are png files with transparent background. Try downloading Gimp or ImageGlass and try to open the files with these programs. I assume you use Windows? It's also possible that the transparent png can't be viewed by other OS's but I don't think this is the case. If this should fail to fix the problem post your e-mail address here or send an e-mail to christian.eichhorn.dmg@gmail.com. Then I will send you jpg files with white background. (I posted here again for a good measure, in case someone else encounters the same problem)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
