Killshot Class 5e

The killshot class for 5e D&D is a class that fills the void left open for a purely range oriented class. Killshots are defined by their intense focus: an unwavering, intense, and relentless drive that heightens the senses and pushes the physical limits of the body. Focusing on the heat of battle, a skilled killshot is guaranteed to hit its mark; whether this be from letting loose a barrage of projectiles in rapid succession, or firing methodically at a precise moment. Focus may come from an extreme calm and decisiveness, years of practice and experience, or a fury to kill honed into a silent wrath. No matter the underlying emotion or lack thereof, a killshot is always controlling the battle from afar.

Update: Changes made in the Killshot Class V1.3

1) Added ammunition to the "Equipment" section.

2) Changed the level 3 ability, "Resourceful," for the Mercenary Practice. The damage for an improvised ranged weapon has been changed from 1d4 to 1d6 to create a more meaningful bonus from the typical improvised weapon.

3) Changed the 10th level ability, "Careful Shot" for the Steady Hand Practice to make the ability more practical in combat. The ability still maintains and reinforces the thematic components of the practice while not taking away the player's second attack. Specifically, "Careful Shot" now states that a player may reduce their movement to gain advantage on all of their ranged attacks for the rest of the turn rather than forgoing an attack to gain advantage on the other.

We're always looking for more feedback, so if you're using the class or have taken a look at it and want to give us your thoughts, we'd love to hear them! Please feel free to message me on reddit: reddit.com/u/staceythedm

I noticed that Focus and Light Load aren't usable at the same time as you can only enter Focus while wearing light armour, and only gain the bonuses from Light Load if you are unarmoured. Is this intended?

Is there going to be any change to Careful Shot. It is basically worthless as far as abilities go. Making two shots that could potentially both hit is better than making two rolls for a shot that can only ever hit once.

When we initially devised the ability, we understood that it was "under-powered" in comparison with the other other practices because we felt that some of the other abilities the Steady Hand had were good enough to make up for it. Looking back, we think we might have a better idea for the ability than our initial design. Something that better aligns with the flavor of the practice and is a bit more practical to use in combat. Thanks for the feedback! Be on the lookout for the Killshot Class V1.3 coming soon. (We hope!)

Here’s a note you don’t start with any ammunition just something I thought I should mention

How does this compare to the archer class originally found in the dragon magazines? I have recently started 5E after a 30 years of not playing. My son fully enjoys the game. I am looking for a true archer class that specializes in the use of bows.

I won't lie; I've never seen the archer in the magazines. I'm afraid that may be a little before my time. On another note however, the class features three practices (subclasses) that all special in ranged weaponry, so they work splendidly with bows! I should note, we've gotten more good feedback, so we'll be updating in the next day or so. All in all, I think you'll find this class to suit your needs well if you want a really nice ranged weaponry specialist!

If you don't like this class, try the Arcane Archer Fighter archetype that was introduced in Xanathar's Guide to Everything. Really fun, totally bow oriented

This class looks pretty cool!
Some notes:
- The Mercenary Practice's Battlefield Analysis supposedly starts at 2nd level, while the Practice is gained at 3rd.
- The Steady Hand's Careful Shot is a nice flavor, but provides almost no benefit, as making two attacks grants you better odds for hitting (when both dice would hit) and more potential damage, since half proficiency mod provides +3 damage at maximum.
- I would reword the Steady Hand's Ricochet Shot to say "You take a -5 penalty [...]" instead of "You *can* take a -5 penalty [...]", as it currently may be unclear the penalty is mandatory.
- Possibly add the doubled ammunition cost to the Dual-Notched Shot? It is implied, but not stated in the actual mechanic.

Again, awesome stuff! Looking forward to iterations!

The Battlefield Analysis starting level is a misprint. Oops. Thanks for the other feedback though! I always appreciate hearing people's thoughts on what Jack and I've made!

I did not think I'd like this class, but I've warmed to it. Since I gave it thought, I'll share it with you.

Mercenary Practice:
No complaints here, it's damn near the best batman I've seen.

Steady Hand Practice:
Aimed Shot is wayyy too good. Limit its uses or maybe have it cost marksman dice to use "spend a marksman die as a bonus action to add your proficiency bonus to your attack roll." That limits its use, but the choice gets more appealing as you increase in level.

Brutal Killer Practice:
Overall I find this to be the weakest thematically and the least inspired mechanically. You've retooled more of the barbarian class and squished some of the GWM feat in.
Aggravated Shot is fine, I like the narrative implication of tunnel vision.
You may want to pepper a little of the ingenuity of the Mercenary into the later abilities. Like barbed arrow heads that cause bleed damage and deal damage when removed or reduce in combat healing....See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
