Solstice Shenanigans

Solstice Shenanigans is a festive ~5 hour adventure for a tier 2 party.

The Winter Games are in full swing on the demiplane controlled by the powerful archfey lord of winter, Jack Frost. Games and challenges await the players, along with a baker's terrible mistake and a bout of mysteriously disappearing trees!

This adventure is designed to work as a short break from a main story set in any campaign setting. The characters find themselves magically transported to a wintry realm, where they can take part in several games, hunt down a rogue Gingerbread Golem, and thwart the plans of an evil druid who has been awakening the decorated trees and running amok. Get a jump on the holiday season with this wintry one-shot!

The adventure contains a few new thematic magic items and several wintry spins on standard creatures. Includes several maps, tokens, and paper minis along with the adventure itself. It is also set up to work with the Avrae Discord bot.

For my friend and me was this a great start in this year.
Only one improvement wish: "Snowballs... are improvised ranged weapons..." I overlooked this and it happend that some fall prone every round because in melee you have disadvantage with melee and in range you have disadvantage if the target is prone. A better w

wording is "improvised weapon with the thrown property" like a dagger.

I'm probably missing something, but what is the purpose of the symbols on the Bakery and Town Centre Maps? Looking forward to this one, running it as my annual Christmas D&D oneshot!

Do you mean the grey hexagons with a glow around them? Those are light posts.

Hi there! I just purchased this and I can not seem to open the two ZIP files. Would someone be able to assist? After it downloads and I click to open it, the error message states "Application Not Found".

That's odd. If you're running Windows, they should just open like folders to pull the files out of. What OS are you using? If you're on mobile, you'll have to get an app that can extract from zip files I think, but there are several free ones available on the various markets at this point I believe.

Ian,

What are the dimensions for the Blighted Caves map on roll20? I can't seem to get it to align with Roll20's grid. The other battlemaps worked great.

The Blighted Caves are 6400x6400, and the same PPI as the other maps (128).

No worries. I got it to align to the Roll20 grid by resizing the map to 3430x3430 which is 49x49 in roll20's grid.

Yeah this has been great! I have run it for two sessions so far and will finish it on a third. All the players thoroughly enjoyed this campaign and it was my first time DMing! I created some maps that worked really well and wanted to share them with you. They were all edited on roll 20 so I take no credit for the art involved just the maps. My crew and I have a gorgeous set up with 49" tv in a table so the units are customized to that. I wasn't sure how to reach out or send these but I think others would enjoy them. Is there a way I could send them to you? - Zec N. (Alyssa's my Gf)

It makes me really happy seeing how many people picked this up for their first time DMing and had fun with it! If you want to share your maps, you could make an album on imgur or another image sharing site and post a link here. I'm curious/excited to see how they differ from the ones I included in the DM resource pack.

So after doing some research I am finding out that Roll 20 does not have a user friendly way of doing this. I did not realize that when I purchased Roll 20 that the things I created were going to be held hostage in their site. I can find a way to show you the maps I created but I do not think they will be playable. I understand Roll 20 does this to protect the art created by artists, It's just annoying that they cannot be shared...

Alright so I think I am going to have to piece together screen shots. It will probably take me a few days to get everything together.

If they can't be exported because of using their assets, you probably shouldn't do that actually. You might get in a bit of legal trouble. Shame though, I was looking forward to seeing them.

Ran this for my group yesterday and is was a great change of pace for them all. Fantastic adventure.
Even though it took around 6 hours for my players to run amuck through everything... They had a blast!
Well done and look forward to a sequel! (Hint hint, nudge nudge)

Awesome! And yeah, I was a bit optimistic saying 3-4 hours. When I finally got a chance to run it, it took a little over 4 hours, and that was with cutting out a few of the fights. There will probably be a direct sequel next year (I've already got a few ideas). And in the meantime, I'm going to be putting out a few more Holiday-themed PWYW one-shots too. The next one will be out in time for Valentine's Day (hoping to have it ready for release by the 25th of January). It's called Love Bites and features an infestation of Love Bugs wreaking havoc in Port Nyanzaru. It should be a lot of fun!

First time DM here, ran this for some friends, was great! Only weak part was the Mimic encounter in my opinion - change the "rules" to ensure players can't cheese it.

I'm glad you and your friends had a good time with it, and good on you for picking up the mantle of DM for your first time! Always good to hear about fresh DMs having fun! The thing with the Game of Gifts is that Gimble doesn't want his mimics to die or actually kill anyone (both of which are bad for business), it's more about just giving the characters a chance to gamble for a spell. It's not intended to be a full-out combat encounter, just a nod to the ubiquity of mimics in the form of a gambling game. What changes would you suggest though?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
