The editing in this book is really atrocious. Not just the typos and grammatical issues, but the rules texts themselves. It seems as if some of the authors as well as the editors aren't actually terribly familiar with the way Wizards writes rules, or even some of the game's rules themselves. Right away, in the very first subclass, Path of the Courageous Heart, the very first feature, Matter at Hand, "gives" the Barbarian proficiency with unarmed attacks (and improvised weapons). It's an interesting thing to give to a class because the Player's Handbook has been issued official errata to clarify that ALL characters are proficient with their unarmed strikes. This feature was bad to begin with from a power standpoint, and this just makes it worse.

I expect better out of Adept stuff, frankly. Both of the druid subclasses are very poorly written/worded, Atonement monk is just straight overpowered, some of the abilities make references that reveal pretty clearly that some of the designers were...See more

I noticed that the Feyblood can just run around charming everyone with a simple Wisdom save that has no shown way of calculating the DC. Is there no limitation? That really seems unbalanced.

Fey Charm. You can target one humanoid or beast that you can see within 30 feet. It must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be magically charmed. The charmed creature regards you as a trusted friend to be heeded and protected. Although the target isn't under your control, it takes your requests or actions in the most favorable way it can.

Along those same lines, is it necessary to have advantage on saves against charm from both Fey Ancestry and Fey Resistance? That just seems redundant.

The Fey Charm feature also doesn't specify whether it costs an action, bonus action, or anything. In addition to that, there's no sign of a duration of the effect, and no word on how many people you can use it on. Theoretically you could just charm a whole town, forever. This being the ONLY race in the book, I really hope this gets fixed soon.

College of Discord, The 6th level skill. It never states what the strength saving throw DC is based off of.

I would read that sentence as "Whenever you make a Strength, Dexterity or Constitution saving throw as a result of any effect, skill, spell, etc caused by you or anyone else during combat, and pass, ..."
So it's not like you voluntarily make a saving throw to gain the effect, it's sort of a side effect on passing saving throws.

Don't expect the entire supplement to become AL legal. But there are possibilities that individual subclasses, the adventure, or various items could be considered legal, or legal with a special certificate.

This is meant for use with 5E rules, and to my understanding is currently under review for being AL Legal. As of now this homebrew, but with DM's approval you could use anything in this PDF

I'm looking through it. What was the design and playtest process like? I'm growing increasingly concerned with the power creep. Some features seem very, VERY troubling to introduce to a table. (looking at Pandemonium, Atonement, and the entire Providence paladin)

I don't see why not, but that will most likely happen down the road. We're currently working on revisions, then POD availability. The content also needs to be reviewed by admins for possible AL legality.

Question: If we purchase the PDF version now, will there be any way later on to get a discount on the POD version when it becomes available since it looks like books that had POD versions added later had a PDF/POD bundle option available? I wanna get this now but $20 is already a substantial buy in and my gaming bucks are limited :/

I thought the same, then I thought the opposite when I saw they're restricted to Conjuration and Divination magic as their main school of magic for some reason I do not truly understand.

They have a choice of 4 spells they can actually learn with their 1st-level spell slots: Fog Cloud, Ice Knife, Comprehend Languages and Detect Magic. It doesn't get much better later on, and feels rather weird as to why the guy who descended from a dragon can't cast Evocation spells to do "dragon-y" things or Transmutation to cast Dragon's Breath, but can tell you that this writing is ancient primordial.

When you compare it to the Eldritch Knight or Arcane Trickster, who only gets 3 spells and the former must pick for two of there starting spells to be Abjuration or Evocation, yeah I feel like that might be a bit of an oversight.

Way of Atonement seems to be a sticking point for every review so far. TBH, I think you could drop the Atonement dice entirely, cause the force damage on-hit to have a base cost of 1 ki point + 1 hit die, with an additional 1d8 damage per extra HD spent. Reflavor the concept as atoning for your violence by allowing wounds to remain on your body when you rest. The current atonement system offers incredibly high damage spikes but will leave the class constantly wounded (or cost a grumbling caster a healing spell slot every rest). It's a creative and interesting concept on paper, but in play will probably cause too broad of a power swing between "the monk only has a few hitpoints left" or "the monk can't use their features without nearly killing themselves when we rest" or "the monk just one-shot this creature with 1d4+10+8d8 force damage in a single blow."

Armament of Atonement has a few too many features for a class that's already martially powerful. Giving magical damage...See more

That's a great note Alex C! It was actually Hit Dice up until this draft. The wording required a bit more complicated approach and this was an attempt to simplify it but we'll be revisiting every page before it's in final form. We will definitely be comparing them side by side.

While we didn't have the luxury of hundreds of playtesters, we are pretty happy with the playtesting we got and the product as a first draft. We knew the awesome peeps here on the DMsG would make sure we had solid information to go into the revision with. Don't worry, every notes will be combed and mined. Thanks again for the note and review.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
