Orcs: A Racial Overhaul for 5e

UPDATE 8/17/18: I made a few tweaks to the fluff and racial features. Powerful Build is now standard for orcs. For half-orcs, I removed Savage Attacks and gave them Relentless Endurance again instead of orcish ancestry, as well as two skill choices and 1 extra language. I also updated the suggestions for half-orc variants, hopefully making them a little more interesting and logical. I included suggestions for tritons and aasimar as well.

Orcs in D&D could really use some work and Half-Orcs read more like Orcs with their features than actual Orcs. I aim to change that. With this document, I have attempted to alter Orcs as a player race, along with potential updates to their overall lore for your campaign, as well as an attempt to tweak Half-Orcs to be a little more like Half-Elves. Also included are potential suggestions for Half-Orcs with a non-orc parent of another race besides Humans.

The changes have not been playtested but were done in such a way to feel inline with already established player races from Volo's and the PHB. The flavor text was changed in ways to encourage making Orcs more than just savage raiders and PC fodder as the prevailing view has shifted quite a bit and the time of humanoid races that are just Evil is hopefully drawing to a close. I hope you enjoy!

I'm a huge fan of this. I absolutely love the alternate half-orc rules. My only issue is that mechanically, your new orc is exactly like the PHB half-orc, but with an added ability. Presumably the races in the PHB were well balanced, so if you're reall [...]

I like this product because it brings two of the Strength-based races, which tend to be underpowered, into line with the others. I only have two concerns: 1. In order to not make them (and mountain dwarves and firbolg) the default choi [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
