"Assassins guilds are a common trope of fantasy RPGs, but I don't often see them fleshed out quite as thoughtfully as this. The White Scorpions are perfect if you have a player who wants to run a good-aligned assassin. There's a lot of good backstory and flavour here, and I love the induction ceremony. The new backgrounds are a nice touch, too." Review by LootTheRoom.uk, on their Best of the DMs Guild October 2017 post.

The White Scorpions are an Order of Assassins who carry out justice killings under the auspices of their God (Tyr), using the deadly Deathstalker Scorpion venom.

The purpose of this book is to:

1) To give flavour, structure and credible back story possibilities to the Rogue Assassin archetype

2) To give PCs a chance to play a good-aligned assassin that can operate in most adventuring parties

3) To give DMs a range of adventure hooks for their Assassin PCs.

The book includes:

  • An introduction and history to The White Scorpions
  • A mission statement
  • Secret signs
  • Maxims & mottos
  • Organisational structure of the guild
  • The Scorpion Tongue
  • Details on Necrodicta (death sentences)
  • Details and rules for a new poison – Deathstalker Scorpion Venom
  • The specially crafted 'Sting' dagger owned by each agent in the Order
  • Training methods
  • Initiation ceremony
  • Duties, rules and regulations of the Order – a table of rules and punishments
  • Role of religion in the Order (and a prophecy)
  • Rules for adventuring as a White Scorpion
  • A fully developed new background: Trainee Assassin (for those characters who wish to join the guild at Level 1).
  • Character backgrounds and stat blocks of four prominent guild members, including Grandmaster Oblivion, and Xenia ‘Nightsting’ Zanetti (featured on the cover art).
  • Dungeon Master’s Class – 15 strong adventure hooks, and some general tips for bringing an assassin’s backstory into the game.

Written by an experienced DM and playtested over many months / years.

The author sincerely hopes that - for the price of a coffee - the buyer gets an enhanced Rogue Assassin-related gaming experience! Feel free to customise any / all details for your own campaign.

A little more about the author

After graduating in ancient history and literature, Duncan Rhodes forged a career as professional travel journalist, contributing to The Guardian, Conde Nast Traveler, CNN Traveler and many more newspapers / magazines, whilst at the same time founding and editing his own media: Urban Travel Blog and Barcelona Life. After rediscovering his love of D&D, he launched www.hipstersanddragons.com (after all roleplaying is fun, social and cool!) and is currently working on two new 5e D&D adventures. He has recently resolved to stop talking about himself in the third person...

Thanks to Loot The Room who selected The White Scorpions as one of his top products on the DMs Guilds for October 2017. He had the following kind words to say:

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
