Minotaur's Betrayal

Written by Josh Parry (JVC Parry) and Phil Beckwith (P.B. Publishing)

Minotaur’s Betrayal is the second adventure of The Minotaur Trilogy by P.B. Publishing.
It is a Dungeons & Dragons 5e adventure designed to be completed in about 3-5 hours of play.

Almost every combat encounter, unless noted, has been calculated to present a tough challenge (upper end of Hard) for four characters of 6th level – that is, APL (average party level) is 6.

After completing a daunting run through the Minotaur arena, the party has managed to earn the trust and respect of the Minotaur and made a deal that a detachment of Minotaur warriors will accompany them back to the town where a warband of orcs sits on the horizon, waiting to strike. With the Minotaur in tow, the town militia should have enough force to repel the Orcs, but only if the party arrive with the allies in time.

Little do the heroes know, the orc horde they intend to fight have made partnered with Minotaur traitors. One sect of the Minotaur, led by the brutish Theron, has agreed to help the orcs. They plan to steal an ancient Orcish banner from the Minotaur settlement and hand it over to the orcs. In return, the orcs will assault the Minotaur settlement, kill the current leader, and place Theron as their ruler. Meanwhile, a smaller group of Orcs will run a distraction attack upon the town in order to blind-side the minotaur and the heroes.

With the minotaur leader dead, their society and leadership in ruins, and the sacred banner stolen, do the heroes have what it takes to infiltrate the orc war-camp, retrieve the banner and return it to the safety of the minotaur?

Adventure awaits!

This adventure is a continuation of the first in the Minotaur Trilogy; Minotaur’s Bargain. However, this adventure can still be played without having played through part 1. If this is the situation for you and your group, try using the suggestions given in the Adventure Synopsis to kick-off your quest to retrieve the lauded Banner of Gruumsh.

To run this adventure, you will need:

  • The Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Players Handbook
  • The Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Monster Manual
  • Volo’s Guide to Monsters
  • The content supplied within this adventure

Minotaur’s Betrayal is designed to be a drop and play adventure that can fit into any setting and any campaign

DISCLAIMER! Minotaur’s Betrayal is a Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition tier 2 adventure. This will be a very, very hard adventure for 4th level player groups of 3 to 5 players with mostly very deadly encounters, we DO NOT suggest it. However, ideally Minotaur’s Betrayal is tailored as a challenging difficulty adventure with plenty of excitement and danger for a 6th level party of 4 to 5 players.
Scaling information is supplied within the adventure text to assist you with managing the difficulty of the adventure as you run it.

I am getting ready to run this after having done the first part. I loved the arena, all my players were tense throughout. I know this is a bit of an ask, and I have access to the maps and absolutely will count it myself if I have to, but I was wondering if you had the in game dimensions of each section of cavern layin around? Or perhaps I overlooked it? I am taking on the task of mapping these out on scrap canvas, painting it, and creating 3D terrain to go on top of it because my players loved the first one so much, even without the terrain pieces. I know it's a lot to ask, and if you can't provide the dimensions I understand, I just thought no harm in asking! Can't wait to run this module regardless and I'm already anticipating part 3!

Hey there James!

Thanks for touching base. And really stoked to hear you are planning to make terrain for MB2. Please (super please) can you take photos and send them to Pbpublishing@outlook.com? I can showcase them on our FB pages/twitter/this product page

I am not sure why but DMsGuild cut the last half of my reply off...
In any case, I was wondering what exactly you might need to work this magic, in terms of dimensions? Like how many 1inch squares is room is?

Regards

Precisely, that way i can accurately map out the size. I guess what I'm looking for exactly is the amount of one inch squares the chambers of east, west, and north, as well as main and refuse valley. I will absolutely send photos once it's all complete. It's going to take a couple weeks as I'm just getting underway today after having gathered all the supplies. I also intend to make the orc huts in all of Varg-Kala interactive, the roofs will come off to reveal all the orcs going about daily lives. I wont be making huge cavern walls, but probably will make short versions to frame everything in nicely. I hope to do it justice!

Oh boy, its big, I would have to literally count each square individually... this may take some time.

I will see if I can get you something by Sunday evening.

In the meantime, can you please touch base on my email address, its easier to communicate with you that way

I’ve been running the trilogy with a group of friends and I feel very satisfied with it. When can we expect part 3?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
