As far as the reviews referencing the dinosaur race goes, you need to know a little bit about horse racing for it to make sense. There are two different kinds of wagers - straight wagers and exotic wagers. In a straight wager, you pick a single horse and you pick win (1st), place (1st or 2nd), or show (1st, 2nd, or 3rd). If the single horse you bet on comes in that place, you win the bet and get paid. In an exotic wager, you're betting on multiple horses completing the race in a particular combination. It can get complicated, so that's all I'll say (beyond suggesting you Google the word "trifecta" and go from there).

Consider that the race in DDAL07-01 allows a certain degree of combat between participants and includes traps and obstacles. I suspect dinosaur race betting in a setting like Chult has wagering on other aspects of the race, too. How many jockeys will be gored? Trampled? Dismounted? The possibilities go on.

In any case, the point is that the selected dinosaur does...See more

Forgot to put this part in my review: It seems like this adventure doesn’t really have anything to do with the trilogy. I played 2 and 3 before I even got this adventure, and they made a nice beginning and end. Nothing felt missing at all for being the 2nd and 3rd parts.

Playing this adventure it really seems like there was a fun adventure that had some bits of the other story painted on. This adventure barely touches the overall story—It’s basically the story hook and then a cutscene at the end.

This IS a fun adventure, but the story hook is weird because the story hook just ends up being an excuse to do the racing.

I ran this module this week at my local game store, did not have to purchase it. Spoilers follow:

Overall Rating: 3/5

This module is okay with a lot of potential. I found it did a mediocre job of everything it was supposed to and left a lot to be determined or set up by the DM. Normally this is something that I like because it allows a DM to feel empowered and create an environment that suits their table, but something as integral to Port Nyanzarou as a dinosaur race did not turn out nearly as exciting as I expected it to either in playtesting or when I DMd it.

First, and this is a complaint about the AL modules this season in general, if the goal was to create modules that could be interchanged with the hardcover TOA it would make sense that there would be characters in the modules from the book rather than creating faction contacts that appear in AL mods and then disappear in the books. Second, the module encourages the DM to describe the race in ways...See more

Hi Daron,

Yes, I'm looking to post a revision and will summarize the changes when I do. I would expect this to happen sometime around the new year. Thank you for asking.

Why are all three of these listed as Multiple File Format and only have a PDF version? Is a FG mod coming?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
