Ducklings.

It's not too late too close this page, and go and find an adventure about happy-go-lucky halflings, or emotionally stable young adventurers. This is not that story. You can still walk away, and find some other story where good is triumphant and destinies are fulfilled.

Keep reading, and you will be introduced to the wretched streets of Elysium. Ripped from paradise by a tragedy long past, nightmares rule it now. Escape is unlikely. Enjoyment fleeting. I implore you, turn away and don't look back. Illusion, mystery and madness await, and wriggling death is a mercy afforded to few visitors in the City of Eyes.

Questions lead to questions, which evolve into answers you will only regret asking for.

Go whilst you still can. There is nothing here for you but death.

What price would you pay for the truth?

Prologue: Welcome to Elysium
Chapter One: The Crooked House
Chapter Two: The Broken Prison
Chapter Three: The Temple of the Gaunt Silhouette
Chapter Four: The Grand Library
Chapter Five: The Adamant Asylum
Chapter Six: The Dancing Spider
Chapter Seven: The Undercity
Chapter Eight: The Heart of the City

An adventure for characters of level 15+

1

Contains:

  • An introduction to Elysium, a Ravenloft domain filled with eldritch mystery and drowned secrets, including Life In Elysium, The Rule Unspoken and the Marks of Horror that set Elysium apart.
  • Guidance on Madness in Elysium, with Elysian Madness tables for your horror/amusement.
  • A list of Elysian locations, some of which will be expanded in later releases.
  • Elysian random encounter tables, day & night.
  • An Elysian Wild Magic table, miserable magic items and tragic trinkets.
  • The first installment, The Crooked House, in which the cat does not walk alone.
  • The second installment, The Broken Prison, where the shadows of gods walk amongst men.
  • The third installment, The Temple of the Gaunt Silhouette, where broken fragments of reality are reached by strange avenues.
  • The fourth installment, The Grand Library, where the things we wanted to forget prove impossible to truly banish.
  • The fifth installment, The Adamant Asylum, where medicine and madness meet.
  • The sixth installment, The Dancing Spider, in which there is no rest for the wicked.
  • The seventh installment, The Undercity, where your worst suspicions are confirmed.
  • The eighth installment, The Heart of the City, where all things must end.
  • The ninth installment doesn't exist, but if it did, then the Reveries would shimmer like words on the edge of memory.
  • Three new character backgrounds: the Eldritch Detective, the Information Broker and the Tempter of Fate.
  • The long-suffering Elysian character race, with two subraces.
  • The first One Page Woes collection, included here for your convenience, which contains thirteen reasons to be thoroughly miserable.

Hi, I love the city! I was wondering if the text on page 23 is messed up? I see the text boxes "What is my name, Who am I?, and Where do I belong" as upside down and stuff and just weird, is that intentional?

It is 100% intentional, and 100% the author being needlessly convoluted. I'd apologize for the confusion, but then I'd have to start making a whole host of other apologies for rest of the cryptic riddles I included, and that's a slippery slope into an asylum.

I'm glad you like it though, so here's another riddle. (I will never confirm or deny the answer.)

"I'm tall, but not found. Lost, but not low. I grow and I grow (but it just doesn't show). I'm not very small, but sometimes I'm green. I like to play inside but not in-between. I watch at the window, but never in time, and my brothers and sisters all stand in a line. Now tell me a secret, before I devour each minute, and second, but never the hour."

Enjoy.

All your One Page Woes seem to have been eaten by spiders. Have these been removed from the Guild and, if so, is there someplace where they can still be found?

I've been slowly integrating them into the module itself, all but one or two that could do with a little more work, such as the Wicked Man, and Mortimer Filigree. You should be able to find the vast majority in the updated PDF for the module. The others will be added in sooner than later :P If there's one you needed in particular that you can't find, let me know and I'll dig out the file.

I was looking for Dr. Zakari in particular. The main PDF refers you to it for one of the encounters in the Adamant Asylum.

Ah, good old Dr. Zakari is undergoing a facelift. (Literally, he's having his face lifted off. It's all the rage in Elysium atm.) I'll drop the old file back in today, or update the pdf with the new version. Watch this space :)

Hey Kaine, I've added the one page woes pdf back in for now. That should hopefully have everything you need whilst I work on adding it into the main module.

Hey, I think this is awesome! Just one minor gripe; 'noone' isn't proper English and should be written as no one or no-one and appears fairly frequently in your work. Keep up the awesome work my dude!

Bahaha, noted. Call it a minor quirk. A mind flayer stole my spelling and punctuation back in 2011.

Wonderful work! I'm adoring the mood and the detail! Is there some kind of overview that I'm missing though? I'm having trouble envisioning the general high-level pacing of the story.

Hey Pat! I'm away this weekend, but when I get back in next week I'm more than happy to put together a guide to help people with connecting all the material through the higher levels (there's a lot more in the module now then when I started, after all.) Watch this space!

Hey, I just added an overview that should help give you a rough overview as to what order to play the chapters in. I hope that helps a little. High level play can be unpredictable. If in doubt, shrug cryptically and say you already gave them the answer - that usually buys me a few hours to figure out what I'm doing.

Hi Oliver,
I love what you've done with the new location entries for The Shrine to the Red Lady and The Mausoleum. Do you think it would be possible to add something like that for The Lake or Fiddle and Blind's auctions?

I love the new locations! Do you have any idea what kind of magic items would be available from fiddle and blinds, or should I just choose randomly from the appendix and the tables in the DMG?
Customer avatar

CREATOR
I did put together a list, but it ended up seeming rather restrictive. As they're not particularly pugnacious, they're likely to keep emergency items that confer invisibility, teleportation and misdirection. Dust of Disappearance, an Eversmoking Bottle or Iron Bands of Bilarro are good examples of the kinds of things they might have in their pockets.

Hey Nina,

I've just updated the files to include Chapter 5, and add in the appendix on the Infinite Stair. Turns out it went walkabouts, which you wouldn't think was possible for a staircase, but it turns out it just has a heightened sense of irony.

I don't have a map of the Crooked House at the moment, but I'll see about coming up with one to release with the next installment if that would help.

Remember, everything is fine. Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise, they're all paranoid. Particularly the ones who talk about monsters in the walls - how would they even get in there? It's probably nothing.

Ok, Appendix H with the Infinite stair, and Chapter 5 are both live. Just like my aunt was, for a while. Terrible business, that. Just awful. Killed by her own scarecrow in a lover's quarrel. Or was it *by* a lover's quarrel? ....I always forget, and Mr. Sackington was handy with a crossbow...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
