All Hallows Eve: ReEnactment - A Halloween Adventure

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $0.50

Once a year when the planes of the mortal realms of existence begin to overlap with the eternal realms, a holiday is held wherein the masses indulge themselves in frivolous events and entertainment. But for those ancient scholars and sages knowledgeable in the old ways, it is a far more fearsome night wrought with frightening terrors lurking and watching from the shadows. As the barriers between the realms collide, foreign magic begins to seep between the planes causing rifts and time warps between worlds. Amongst these realms is one where the only the dead know how to reach and the living cannot escape. A land where terrifying monsters roam the streets and evil festers and grows without notice, this is Hallowgrave. A bad moon is on the rise and all should watch their steps lest they lose their way in the dark!

All Hallows Eve is a special module event that only occurs once a year when the barriers between the seen and unseen are at their thinnest. Any adventurers may be foolish enough to explore this event regardless of which world they hail from. Awaiting them is an original story filled with chances to acquire unique Hallows Eve themed items and goodies that can only be acquired during this event.

This adventure was designed for a group of 4 level 5 PC's for use with 5th edition rules.
It is designed to be an adventure that can be repeated each year whilst still offering a slightly different experience each time you play it. The whole setting is Halloween themed and is perfect for a little D&D celebration taking about 4-5 hours to complete or less if needed.

LATEST UPDATE: The sixth and biggest ever All Hallows Eve: ReEnactment Update is finally here! There was a lot of revamping and additions to make this year to make it the biggest update i have made for All Hallows eve. This update intrudes a wealth of new minigames, items, horrors and fun through the new Corpse Carnival zone!

Thank you to everyone who has supported and helped locate errors and fixes over the years.

Preparing to run this with my group for what I hope is the first of a regular Halloween tradition! When it says that Skelton might sell them the first cipher... advice on a cost there?

Hi Jordan!

Towards the rear of the document there is an Appendix for Skelton's Shop, where you will be able to find William's Cipher for sale under the Unique category.
The cipher is set at 100 Candy Corn Pieces. :) I have also added that reference to the paragraph for the next update thank you :)

I hope you and your party have a pumpkin load of fun with All Hallows Eve! So much that your party wants to keep coming back!
Feel free to reach out for any other clarifications ^.=.^

Hi Olha! Thanks for taking an interest in this adventure.

Having this module translated would be a big honour, and I would be happy to work something out.
That being said, All Hallows eve is not yet complete. At the rate I am going there will be many more updates in years to come which would make translating very difficult.

More than happy to discuss. Do you have other translated works on DMG? ^.=.^

Years to come sounds OK to me, if there are tips where to look for a change exactly :)

Speaking of my experience, I have the whole SRD translated, and several (six, I guess) 5e adventures, including 166-pages large "Reclamation of Phlan" (for a charity event and with AL admins permission). Those adventures weren't published here originally, so publishing a translation here is not allowed. Yet the only two pieces actually published here you can find with a key-word "inrium"

If we agreed to try, I'll send you translated text and you'll add it to existing item, that's the main trick :)

Hi Olha :)

Thanks for getting back to me regarding the translation offer.

I'll definitely keep that in mind moving forward. As it stands this module is 166+ pages long and is already quite large forcing me to remove quite a few older documents already. I am unsure about the logistics of adding a second document of comparable size to the same title and I would prefer to keep this module separated simply due to its size constant growth.

As we are getting close to Halloween, the bulk of this current document is going to be updated again which will vastly change any translations.
At this stage I would like to hold off on any translations. I would absolutely hate to have anyone miss out on the latest additions as it will likely be one of the biggest updates completed. ^.=.^

Thank you for your offer and time, but I will have to decline for now. There is just wayyyyyyyy too much that I want to add to this adventure first. I'm hoping it has a long life ahead...See more

Hi Michael! Thanks for your interest in the journey of this module.

Everything from the original document, and everything from the subsequent updates has all been maintained and rolled into the current iteration of All Hallows Eve.
Effectively each year I have merely built upon the previous edition, continually expanding and adding more content as well as fixing mistakes. Some of which the awesome players have helped me with.

I am happy to upload copies of the previous versions, however none of them are required to fully enjoy this adventure, everything in them you can experience in this one.

Thanks for your message :)

Ran it for the first time this past October (before the 2021 update). Had a blast. Looking forward to running this again in the upcoming Halloween season. I haven't looked over the newest update, but one thing you might consider doing (if you haven't) is suggestions for upgrades to the encounters for higher level. My players were 4th when I ran them through it, but will probably be closer to 12th or better when I run it again, and I'd like to send the same group back again.

I underestimated where my players would be, mostly due to some heavy time wasting in the campaign. They only just hit 8th level. I would love to hear your thoughts on upping the monsters as they are going back with (mostly) the same group as last year. I will probably start it this weekend (October 1st!) unless my group really stretches out what little they have left in their current adventure. Any advice for adjusting the creatures other than just upping the HP and attack bonuses. I have 6 players.

Hi Garry! Firstly, thank you so much for playing this adventure and for planning to play it again!

And secondly my apologies for not responding to you in your original comment, I was hoping to get through this year's update to add a few more options in document to help you. Alas 2022 is just as busy as ever and the newest update is not quite ready to go online.

However, to aid you in scaling the combat situations there are a few ideas/options I would like to suggest in addition to the usual HP/ATK increase.
Thought #1: The regrowth update (the current one online) added adventure modifiers which may assist. Particularly check out Blood Moon (minus the player buff) or Hunters moon which can thematically increase the damage output of the creatures by adding different damage dice/types.

Thought#1.5: The Super Moon modifier, Two horrors rather than one. This one has been lots of fun in the past. Either roll on each table twice or choose some that you think might work well...See more

Thanks. I did notice the Regrowth options, after I sent this comment. I partially used the Super Moon option. In some places they fought two bosses. I also tied it more into my overall campaign (which is a world hoping game). Since I had previously run the Stranger Things boxed set, I used that to show that Hallowgrave was partially being invaded by the Upsidedown this year. So it nerfed their healing, they had to fight demodogs, grappling vines and more stuff from the Stranger Things show/module. So I made it work. Loved Lostfoot's Bog BTW. Looking forward to the new update for next year (they will probably by 12-15th level by then.

Any chance of getting a printer-friendly version of this? It seems a little hard to read in the preview with the brown background. This seems like it would be great fun!

Hi Marcy :)

My apologies for the late reply. Thanks to your enquiry I have just learned that I need to manually update the previews for the adventure when I make updates.
The preview was showing the very first version of All Hallows Eve, but hopefully this will change shortly. So thank you again for bringing this to my attention. :)

To answer your query, since the module has grown so big all current files are in a print friendly format with a plain background for easy printing.
To help cut down on print size and paper usage I also recommend selecting/rolling for your horrors in advance and only printing out the pages for those chosen horrors. Otherwise it can take up a fair bit of paper.

Thank you again.
If you do play the module, I hope you and your friends have fun ^.=.^

Hey Jared,

I have questions that I hope aren't too silly.

1) Do I block out the map for only the shops and main creatures to ensure the party doesn't waste time?
2) Is the last bit with Eve meant to maintain the horror image? If the players try valiantly to save Eve, I am tempted to allow it.

Hi Timothy!
No question is too silly at all. :)

1) Personally I don't block out the map for my play groups, but if you want to stick to the one shot time limit then it might be worth while doing so if you think players will get distracted. In the adventure I currently have only fleshed out the important locations and do not have random encounters between locations (yet). So this leaves very little else for the players to do. The unused locations during your play through I normally consider empty of monsters/treasure and try to ensure my players focus only on the important locations where all the action is :)

2) Yes! :D At the time I started writing this adventure I knew I wanted players to return over and over and started to leave hints that worked into a larger story at play. But absolutely if you want to allow your heroic players to save Eve than you should definitely do it. In an earlier version of this adventure it was actually possible to save Eve by solving William's Final...See more

Hey Jared,

I'm going to be running this again! This time for a party of 5-6 players. Should I just boost the HP of the horrors to rebalance them?

Hi Dylan!
I am so glad to hear that you will be running this adventure again :D
I have only run this adventure with 6 people once, but I also found it to be effective to balance it by boosting the HP and in some cases increasing the attack bonus of a few of the horrors who mainly focus on single targets, to make them a bit more of a threat.
Personally I also adjusted the amount of CCP dropped to allow for everyone to have equal fun with the shops.

Hope it is lots of fun. Let me know how you go :)

Hi Dylan!
I have just updated the All Hallows Eve DMG files with a PNG of the Hallowgrave town map. It should be available to download shortly.
The file size is quite large so you may need to scale it down a little for online play.
I hope you and your playgroup have fun! :D

i am running this adventure in a few days for my party. i had a question about the Soul Crucible ability for the Headless Horseman. it says the targets' souls will stay out of their body until the ability ends. how long does the ability last? i may have overlooked it. thank you for the time you put into this adventure.

Hi there! Thanks for posting!
Apologies, I may have missed the description of the duration in the stat block! Personally I consider the duration of the Soul Crucible ability to remain in effect until the Horseman has been defeated or until the players are defeated. At either point the effect would end and the players soul's returned accordingly.
However it might offer some interesting role-playing opportunities if you were to say, set the duration of the ability to an hour or so, the players accidental body swapping or trying to work out how to get back into their bodies could make for a little bit of fun before they revert to normal.
I hope this helps, if you need anything else then feel free to post again, I hope you and your friends enjoy! :) And thank you for helping me identify something to fix :)

Hello Jared! I am looking to run this campaign in a few weeks time, and I know that my players will probably go to pick up The Horseman's Scythe. I am allowing them to bring the gear back to the normal campaign we run on a weekly basis, so I was wondering if I could get stats for the Scythe? They seem to be missing from the notes...

I just ran this adventure last week for my players as a Halloween event! We all loved it. I do have a question though. There are currently no stats for the Headless Horseman's cloak. One of my players took it, and I'm wondering what you would have it do?

Hey Dylan!
It makes me ecstatic to hear that your team had a blast playing this adventure :D
I apologise that I seem to have misplaced the information for the horseman's cloak. I will note it down to add it do the list of changes in this years update.
In my own campaigns, (there is a little debate amongst my players XD) I have the headless horseman's cloak labelled as a 'Coat of Many Pockets'. Essentially the interior of the tattered cloak is lined with dozens of pockets of varied sizes. The coat functions similarly to that of a bag of holding, in that it can hold an extreme amount of items in a sub-space dimension without getting heavier. With the added feature that all the pockets lead to the same sub-space. IE, you can retrieve the same item from a different pocket, which makes for a cool trick.
I will put a more thorough explanation in the update!

Thank you for pointing this out to me :D

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
