Adventure itself is solid, my main issue is the interactive PDF. As a concept, it's really useful and makes running the adventure way easier, but the background used can make the text difficult to read. The paper color is very strong, so the relatively thin black text can get lost pretty easily, especially for those with any difficulties in read (ESL, Dyslexia, etc). Again, the adventure itself is good and light enough to reflavor as needed, but strong enough to stand on its own, however the formatting may not be accessible to all DMs.

I'm a little disappointed that the major NPCs are all men. It would have been nice to have a more diverse group of NPCs.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your comment. The majority of the NPCs are male purely because they're shamelessly based on characters from Jaws. However there's an extended section involving Mrs Barrett, who is definitely not male.

That said, there's nothing preventing you from changing the material as you see fit. There's absolutely no reason why all of the NPCs in this adventure couldn't be female or non-binary when you run it for your group.

Thanks for your feedback. It's very much appreciated.

I ran this for my group of 4 level 4 players just this week; they loved it. The discovery of the calves really put them on the back foot as they were ready for this giant beast, and one of them nearly died as she was pinned by a calf. The showdown with the bulette at the end was tense, and could really have gone either way. If they hadn't had been as careful as they had been it could have been a lot worse. But we all had great fun. I'd highly recommend it if you are in need of a filler adventure between plot points.

Ran this as a one-shot for nine (9!!) work colleagues, seven of whom had never played. We didn't make it all the way through (we were at our annual retreat and had to get some sleep!), but the story-driven nature of this really hooked my crew (a bunch or writers). Thanks much!!

Anyone know roughly how long this takes to run?

I know you asked over a year ago, but just in case this is still helpful for anyone else - I believe my group completed this in 4-5 hours in a single session.

On page 23 of the non-interactive PDF we get a map for the town encounter, could you include it in the maps folder?
Thanks for the amazing adventure.

In the color letter version, the appendix has two stat blocks for gwint and none for the adult bulette.

I love your product, but the black text in the semi-transparent text boxes is a little hard on the eyes on the dark grainy background.

Thanks for the feedback Sam. Which version were you having the issue in?

In the interactive version (1.01) when it resizes to fit the entire "page" onto the screen. I'm not demanding a fix, but it is something to keep in mind for future products.

That's really valuable, thank you.

I was intending to push out an update next week enlarging the font size in the interactive version, but an oversight on my part when putting it together meant I can't easily edit the text in that version any more. I'll do my best but at this point I don't know if I'll be able to fix it in this case unfortunately.

As you said, though, it's good to bear it in mind for future products. Thanks again!

I've already had some feedback that the text is a little small in the screen optimized version. I'll get an update out for that later this week!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
